You, Culise, move to 9, 6, dismount, and stab the archer. We'll deny them the pillar defensive bonus, and you're a little squishy to be fighting the bandits head on.
Vera dismounts, moves to 9,9 and heals Chalco.

That Even if we both get downed, Titus and Galen can enter next turn, Vera will bring Chalco back up, and your corpse will deny them the cover. The door will get broken in and either Iolani or Santoku will get to fight.

As far as I recall in my hazy grasp of terrain, sand is more if you're mounted. If you can reach it while astride your mighty steed, by all means do so.

Yes, but the amount of movement gained ends up leaving me with the same amount of movement as if Vera were dismounted.

Also, why did Chalco dismount last turn, anyway?

Dismounted flying units are no longer vulnerable to arrows and can actually benefit from defensive terrain instead of just ignoring it.
