Brainless

I have a nice big army of bowgoblins outside my gates.

I have a nice big army of marksdwarves inside my gates.

Bug 000032 means that both armies are just sitting there waving at each other.

I'm going to have to save-scum and try this again.  How obnoxious.

I forgot to mention bug 528.  My archers are all brain-damaged wrestlers.

One of the goblin pikemen flinched, which reset everyone.  So bolts and arrows started flying.  And then half my army ran out of bolts and just stood there and waved at the bowgoblins firing arrows at them.  Which is even less optimal.

Ha!  I hit the third (and maybe a fourth?) bug: after the battle, I noticed my bone carvers were miserable.  Because my few marksdwarves that properly reloaded were firing masterwork bone bolts instead of steel bolts (which may or may not be problematic).  And, of course, some of the goblins managed to limp away with bone bolts in their bodies, defacing the beautiful art -- bug 379.

One battle, three bugs.  I "win."

I'm save-scumming because these bugs kept the death toll down to four dwarves.

Sadly, after save-scumming and working around the bugs, the death toll was even less: my archers devastated two of the groups of goblins, then ran out of bolts (amusingly, there was a brainless elite marksdwarf standing, while a novice marksdwarf crouched under him to deliver withering fire at a very slow rate).  The third group didn't fire at the now entirely brainless archery contingent; instead, they went straight for the trade depot.  The leader (a master pikegoblin) went first.  Into a cage trap.  Then the bowgoblins decamped, and that was the battle.

I can just see the pikemaster: "Ignore the archers on the walls, they're brainless; CHAAARRG<clonk>.  Uh, can someone get me out of here?  Guys?  Hey, guys?  DON'T LEAVE ME!!"
