The First Trial: Long Jump
Imagine a normal Olympic long-jump setup: A 1.5 meter by 25 meter strip of sand, preceded by a 10 meter running track.
Now imagine if sand area were replaced by a 320 meter deep chasm with the same dimensions.
The farther you jump, the bigger "head start" you have on the other contestants.
This is because at the far end of the chasm, bored into the left and right walls, are safe-houses, distributed in pairs at various depth-intervals.
The entrance two these safe-houses are circular and 5 meters in diameter.
You want to reach one of those safe-houses, but the game does not end there.
Each safe-house is a small "dungeon" stocked with !!LOOT!! (And a few traps and monsters.)
To complete the first trial, you must climb out at the other side the chasm using what you found in the safe-houses.
Various obstacles will spanning (the shortest length of) the chasm, such as spiked bars, platforms, and razor blades.
Some of these obstacles would not be normally fatal unless you were to fall into them.
Unfortunately, you will be doing a lot of falling
To aid in maneuvering, each contestant is equipped with a pair of jet-propelled shoes.
They are only powerful enough to cancel out your weight, so cannot thrust you upwards.
These boots are controlled by a large, awkward, Atari-esque controller, but with at least a dozen buttons.
This is controller must be held in both hands to operate, but can be carried by only one.
Although all the buttons are unmarked, you know that only the joystick and the button upon it are necessary for its primary function. (Slowing down your fall.)
The boots will only work once you have reached a depth of 20 meters.
Your first action should be running and jumping as far as you can, although you may choose other courses of actions.
Along with your all your actions, please post your character's weight in kilograms.
(There are approx. 2.2 pounds per kilogram.)
Character-specific intros:
Manny mcUgly: You are equipped with a metal mask, attached by bolts into your skull.
John: Duke is placed into harness on your back. Please PM me the specs of the dog.
