Taking off might be a workable idea, but really the issue may be simpler.
People don't know what to do, or rather what they "can" do.
You're asking about 19 characters to post each round? I'm unsure what each character can be expected to produce in terms of content. So far I've contributed as much as I can in the following ways generally:
I.)
Research: This seems to be a key function of my character and she'll be doing a ton of this.
II.)
Crew Management: I've talked to some degree with the people under me (medics), but I'm also not rushing it.
III.)
Workplace interaction: (Past, Present, and Future) I've done a little here and there in the medical bay and with a journal entry of sorts.
Now consider what a given person can work with to produce content (a post). That depends largely upon profession/skill doesn't it?
If you're one of the engineers, then I imagine you could do system checks
If you're a pilot, then you could do navigation and / or a bridge shift.
Transport pilot, could do systems checks or hang out in the hanger?
I'm not entirely sure what the ground forces would be doing, seeing as there's nothing to fight (and that's a good thing, combat can't be constant) though training may be? Not sure.
I suppose it's possible they could make use of the ship's various rooms, including the rec room?
Command, including and perhaps especially myself, may set up duty rosters and shifts (I've already started the basics of this with the on call idea, and offered the possibility of reaching out to discuss someone else's research).
I guess the idea is, what would you expect in a post from a given person? How would they make it using what they have in front of them? What reoccuring themes would be used in shipboard life? Consider Star Trek TNG. They had a regular poker game where crew members Data, Worf, Riker, and Troy were regulars (and Picard never showed up except in the last episode). They also had Ten Forward, a socialization and watering hole area where various news was relayed in the classic "adventurer's tavern" style by
Guinan. Of course, the holodeck could be any set they wanted, but really even without that flexibility, it's a matter of essentially how to occupy your time, where and with who.
I hope that helps somewhat.
