Ah, forgot the personal interest bits and didn't notice that Credit Rating is bought with skill points.

Should be fixed now. Or wait, is the credit rating the absolute limitation for skills or simply how many Occupation skill points you can put into one? Or did I misunderstand that entirely?

Credit rating of a occupation is simply its minimum and maximum points you can put your occupation skill points into it.

So if it was 20-50 that means that you
A) MUST put in at least 20 occupation skill points into it.
B) CANNOT put in more then 50 occupation skill points into it.

Essentially Credit rating is always an Occupation Skill.

Mind you... That is just for Occupation skill points. Personal skill points (Int x 2), you can spend freely even in occupation skills and even Credit rating.

You can even raise Credit rating higher then the maximum if you spend personal interest points.

I am going to state that I won't put a OOC room up until I have the basic plot and layouts down. But I'll try to get the basic plot in soon. I was planning to today, but I got unnaturally sleepy.

Finished the tutorial section though I think it leaves much to be desired... Anyhow just so there are no barriers while I am writing the story here is a very tiny bit of information about the setting.

Location: Town of Barberry Rest along the Appalachian Mountain range, inside the state of Vermont

Family Last name: Vignali
Current head: Ettore Vignali

No need for an OOC thread, I think. Just make this one the OOC. Heck, you could keep the IC in here as well. I don't exactly foresee this getting ER levels of traffic to the point where OOC interferes with IC.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Age reduced a bit if he's only 80. The Quick-Start handbook didn't have any item prices or stats, so I'll be relying on you for that.

Yeah your pretty within the spending limit Flying Dice.

Though there are four things
1) You are supposed to list assets such as a house, car, whatever even if you didn't bring it with you... but honestly I'll let that pass... what I can't let you pass
2) 12-guage shotgun (2b) not (12b). Goodness 12 shots.
3) Few things can ever get to 100, skills not being one of them. (my fault). Conceptually a 100 would be something beyond human incapable of making mistakes. Bring your 100 down to 99.
4)  you STILL need to mark something as a key background.

You didn't make the advancement roll so your EDU stays the same.

HERP, yeah, that was a typo on the shotgun. Skill fixed.

I'm not sure what you mean by "mark something as a key background", the quickstart PDF only had a single paragraph on background which said essentially the same thing you did in your long post, albeit with fewer words. Haven't played CoC in ages, and I think that was an older edition, so I'm really drawing a blank here.

It is a new thing to the game. The key background is basically your SUPER background.

Also YEAH the Quickstart rules are not the same as the normal rules. It is just a good idea to look at for some jists.

Basically if you try to gain sanity in off time by indulging in your backgrounds you get a certain amount with a success rate. The key background, however, is not only a lot more effective but can also cure insanity.

Hm. Don't have a rulebook. What else do I need for my sheet and how do I get it?

Hm. Don't have a rulebook. What else do I need for my sheet and how do I get it?

Chaosium sells investigator PDFs if you want to get it that way. Sadly, very sadly, not all the rules investigators might need to go are EXACTLY in the investigator rulebook (namely some of the free time activities) but it has most of what you need.

They also have free PDF sheets including an auto fill modern sheet.

Basic Autocalc

Full Autocalc

--

As for what else you need.

1) You need to include background choices. I put a overly wordy tutorial on it. Then indicate one of the backgrounds as your "Key background".
2) You MIGHT want to include any skill you think you might use that you didn't put points into. Dodge, first aid, jump, climb being HUGE ones.
3) "Some Shotgun shells" should include a number. Typically a box comes with 25, but that could be 23 if you already loaded your shotgun.
4) You will want to translate your Credit rating to a number (don't erase your credit rating)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Other then I THINK you have more skill points then you thought (by exactly 15). So you might want to spend them.

Here's my character sheet:

Spoiler: Mark Kovir (click to show/hide)

I have two questions:
1 My HP and Dodge have a .5 decimal. Should I round up or down?
2 Under "Rifle/Shotgun" there are different categories. Are there just two: Rifle & Shotgun?

By the way, a '!' next to a skill is one that I gave points to, and a 'X' is one that is modified by my stats (I didn't put points in any of those).

1) Everything in this game rounds down.

2) Rifle/Shotgun are the same skill. The manual lists them separately so you know their use.

Though Rifle only refers to using single shots from a Rifle. Using its automatic fire requires submachine gun skill.

It is one of the frustrating parts about Chaosium not putting any of their sheets online without you just being able to download them freely. Since the printed out, and autofill, sheets are perfectly fine.

It DOES tell you they are the same skill, but only if you check the "Firearms" skill. Otherwise it lists Shotgun and Rifle skills separately and even lists them as separate on the "listing all the skills".

Sure.

Though strange encounters cannot be a key background. (heck the game doesn't EXACTLY want you to even have any)

Oh.. I think I misunderstood.

I thought that Description/Ideology/People/Location/Possessions/Traits would have one Key background among them, while Injuries/Phobias/Artifacts/Encounters would have one Key background among them. What is it like, if not that?
