I was just coming to post about that myself. Reports already coming in of flooding in Galveston. Admittedly, an overturned dog dish could cause flooding in Galveston outside the seawall, but still....

Fun fact: My great-great-grandmother was buried in Galveston. I say was, because the great hurricane of 1900 flooded the cemetery and washed most of the caskets out into the Gulf.

Why are people still driving around at this time? The Galveston one shows the surf really picking up.

Bravery, desperation, stupidity. The usual for people who are about to get sideswiped by a hurricane and didn't start preparing for it (i.e. getting the hell out of dodge, particularly if you're on the coast) early enough.

Galveston should be a object lesson on why its a bad idea to build a city on a glorified sandbar.

I tried to find a live webcam at Corpus Christi.

They were all dead.

The one for Port O'Connor (and from the chat, the only one still up) is near useless because night and no other lights around, and the one for Galveston surf still functions but has gone monochrome because night. However, that one does have lights on and near it.

Can't get it to run on my end, and I'm not actually sure I'd recommend looking in on it 'cause what I can see of folks talking about it suggests it may be rapidly approaching a livestream of someone dying, but this is apparently live from suicidally stupid close to the eyewall. 3-5 miles away, something like that. Emmy award winning storm chaser, apparently, but...

Edit: He got out of his car while there's sheet metal being torn off buildings. Are you sure he's a professional?

That close to a cat 4 eyewall isn't so much dice rolling as attempting suicide, frankly. Was tempted enough to try looking but I'm kinda' relieved I can't.

Probably... for all the good it'd do. Survival where he's at is pretty much entirely luck. The winds are enough to put things through that car like it's paper, if it doesn't just take the car itself and put it through a wall.

The car is inside a car wash building apparently, which is decent cover. It's squat and heavy. And a car can't take impacts all that well, but at least it'll hit that instead of you.
