"How did you get so far behind, anyway?"

"Good enough to keep me in alcohol, anyway."

"Isn't alcohol hazardous to your health? Why do you ingest it?"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Not a drinker, I take it?"

"You want me to be honest? I drink because it takes my mind off the fact I'm a fluke who got lucky, and if I don't come up with something quick I'm going to have to work minimum wage to make ends meet because I flunked out of college. At least if I die of liver failure before then I might be remembered as someone with a bright future lost too soon rather than a lucky hack."

Stein ran his hand down his face.

"Ugh, I need a drink."

[GiglameshDespair]

"No, I've never had a drink such as alcohol. My particular circumstances mean it would be impossible."
She processed Stein's words for a few cycles before speaking again.
"If you are obtaining film deals for your works, surely that would provide you with funds enough you would be able to write in the meantime? If nothing else, you could attempt a change of genre, or transcribing these events, as a fictional story or not."

"Yeah, I'm getting residuals off those, but not a lot. Most of the money is going to go to the actors and director. And I'm not really going to get that much unless those movies do really, REALLY well."

"I just lucked into a time when detective stories are big again. Here's hoping it lasts enough to make a buck off of... though I'm not looking forward to doing the talk show rounds if they ask me."

He decided to get the conversation off of himself.

"So what about you, what do you do?"

Circuit blinked at the sudden question. She was not prepared for this.

"Oh, me? I... don't do a huge amount. I just... read a little online, sometimes."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"I was just curious because the way you speak and the fact you say there's a lot of things you haven't done, you kinda strike me as someone who used to live in a third world country. English isn't your first language, is it?"

Sol offers as she trots by.

Circuit processed it. No, she supposed, her first language was probably binary.

"English is not my first language, no, though I am based in America."

Well, it was where her program was running from, anyway.

"Ah, a recent immigrant. Well, I hope America's better than wherever you used to live."

Stein patted CircuitGirl on the shoulder as he passed by, moving to follow the others that were leaving the area.

As Stein moves to rejoin everyone else he is intercepted by Root Node. She slides up awkwardly to up and takes a few moments to compose herself before saying anything.

"Uh. I probably shouldn't have overheard but, um, yeah. I just need to ask, uh... _{Are you really Louis Copeland? Not just someone pretending to be him?}"

Circuit nodded somewhat awkwardly and began moving.
