Root Node slowly raises her hand and then looks around for any objections.

"Oh hey, that works perfectly! There are twelve of us that just joined, so we should work together! I'm in for sure!"

A quest giver all the way out here? Where there's not even a landmark? First I've seen of it. I'll tag along for now. "I'm in."

"Hmm. I wonder if that's just a variable based on how many people are around... like if there were only five of us, he would say 'five'. Sure, I'm in. Might as well see the new low-level content before I'm overleveled for it."

[Powder Miner]

:"Hmm! A quest! Yes, that'll do just fine; I do expect to take man--"
:"Is he an NPC? Am I trying to roleplay at an NPC?"

"Never been in a game where players were quest givers, so probably."

Xoddahs followed Stein as he went to join the others, and at the response of the questgiver, counted up everyone around. Twelve exactly. He couldn't help but agree with Stein, must be a scaling quest. Fancy.

"Must be a 'learn how to work together' quest. I'm not against it. What's the objective?"

[Blade Master Model 42]

The man smiled. "Oh, it's no big thing, nothing you wouldn't try to do anyway. Your objective is to beat the game! One catch- you cannot die at all between now and when you beat the final boss." As the man spoke, his smile grew wider, and more predatory. "A few more things. First: you can't log out. Second: you're locked as a raid group in a guild together, so no lone wolf garbage. You'll share Ex-pee and gold anyway. And lastly: Your playtime is going to be monitored around the clock, and if you tell anyone else? They get the same treatment. Sound good to everyone?" Without waiting for an answer, the man snapped his fingers, and the twelve players saw their guild affiliation change to 'Unnamed Guild'.

FlyingHigh blinks. Then blinks again.

"Wait what?"

She opens the menu, and looks for the log out button.

"...is this a sort of metagame?"

Peter sighed.
:"Oh, I get it, ha-ha-ha, you're some asshole GM with too much time on his hands, who decided to make some stupid Sword Art Online reference. You having fun, guy?"
As he muttered angrily, his hand went to the menu and he stares at the lack of ability to log out.
:"What the fuck did you do?!"

FlyingHigh's menu looked as it always had, with the exception of a small, but very important omission.

The logout command was gone.

"Ohoho, girly, it is the metaist game."

"I already told you what I did. You seem to have a pretty firm grasp on it except for the Sword Arc whatever thing."

[Swordstar]

"We're... we're stuck? We... but what about everything else? And... and this can't be real. Right? They can't do this to us. There's no way."

[Twinwolf]

"...Holy s***. Why would you even do something like that!?"

"...So you've found a way to hack the game. Epic troll mate, eight out of eight, et cetera. Undo it."
