It's slightly more complicated than that, but no, Harmony Gold still won't let them, and neither will Bandai.

Man, but those 'reseen' designs are ugly compared to the originals.

Seriously. Warhammer is...ok, I guess, but the Marauder just doesn't look right at all.

Huh. I thought Bandai was ok with it and it was just Harmony Gold being jerks? Or did that change again.

it's a shame about the disputes over the look of the designs, but i"ll take the reseen versions over no version at all - the Marauder and Warhammer are two of my most favorite designs in BattleTech.

Just checked the list, and they have the Battlemaster as well. I'll die happy... right after my enemies do, at least.

I always thought the Battlemaster was too 'general purpose', though the -1D was a pretty good variant with non-starleague / pre-clan tech.

I was never a big fan of rear mounted weapons, in general.  Using them often means that you've failed at good lance tactics.

The copyright thing is a four way battle, with FASA/Harebrained, Bandai, Harmony Gold, and Kevin Long all trying to sort shit out.

Though they were well placed on a stand-off mech like the Archer... if something light and fast got past your front line sluggers, those rear lasers would discourage it from chewing up the back side of your support mechs.

Customizable DropShip get. We're only ~$150k off from being able to recruit legendary MechWarriors and find legendary mechs, with 10 days left. I might well upgrade my contribution if we get close.

Just been playing the original 1989 Mechwarrior over the weekend.  Damn, but its a fun game.

Somehow I'm not super interested in fireing up its long awaited successor (Activision's 'make-or-break' game) MW2, nor the pinnacle of the series MW4-Mercs.  But I can get down on some good old 1989 MW.

The story has better writing than I remembered, maybe because I was too young at the time of the original to really appreciate all the double-crosses and political motivations.

Ran into a bug that seems familiar from way back... sometimes mechs dont show up in the 'manage your mechs' list.  Like it only shows the top part of the list.  I can buy more mechs to sometimes push things up the list, but something about it is bugged.  Would prefer not to go into the final battle with marauders instead of battlemasters, so might have to restart...

Hahaha, I know what you mean. Somehow really oldschool things are abstract/visually-limited enough that it's super easy to get into it for pure, unadultered gameplay. Reminds of of Sword of the Samurai... I got super addicted to it a couple of years back. Somehow once graphics became 3d and visuals became so much more important in gaming, the lack of fidelity of the visuals became a problem.

Anyway, theorizin'. Looks like this campaign is really going to need a big push at the end if MP is gonna get made. I hope their KS campaign manager works hard on it :)

I just love the contract haggling from MW, I wish that existed in more games.

Man, now I need to try to track down mekteks free release of MW4. I miss me some fun stomping times and that wonderful 2 lance vs 2 star fight against the clan.

some things I didn't appreciate back in the day, and only recently learned from someone's writeup on it:

different houses treat contracts differently.

- Kurita will give you a fair price out of the gate, but wont haggle much before telling you off.
- Liao has a chance of screwing you on payment after a contract
- Steiner pays well, but might retreat in a larger campaign and end up not getting any salvage
- Davion starts frugal, but will negotiate up to some of the highest pay levels
- Marik I think is just the middle of the road / average, though there may have been more to it?

Also, (never knew this either) some pilots might behave irratically, either retreating and stealing a mech or maybe charging recklessly...  Its what folks say, anyhow...

I always suspected that you could get better mechs from manufacturing worlds (Hespherus II) and capitals, but I was never certain due to bad RNG luck.  Other people confirm though, you have greater availability AND lower prices on some worlds, and you can actually make a killing buying and selling mechs at different worlds.

The mektek links seem to be down, but I found this:  http://www.moddb.com/games/mechwarrior-4-mercenaries/downloads

Also this:  http://www.thegameengine.org/mechwarrior-4-mercenaries/mechwarrior-4-mercenaries-freeware-download/

There is also something called "Mechwarrior 4 Quadrology" out there that includes all the games and tuned for win7.   may or may not be legal, I'm not sure if 2 and 3 were supposed to be freeware.

There is also a thread or two on reddit, however I don't think MW4 works on Win8, or at least not without extensive fiddling.

Mektek was given the authority to do the free release of MW4 to drum up some free press for MWO, however, they ditched their MW2 remake and all support for MW4 mercs pretty soon afterwards. Kind of a shame, but at least they gave us battle armor and a frick ton of mechs.
