Yeah, wood would have bothered them more, but then it would have been called a 'wooden chair', which is not nearly as impressive as an 'iron throne'.

I agree that it should have elf bones on it though.

Iron Thrones are hardcore.  It'd be cool if the material your Leader dwarf sat on affected the moral for your fortress... or your enemies.  Gold throne?  Merchants are happier.  Iron throne?  Military is happier.  That sort of thing.

The fuss is that Elves are pansies and do nothing all day but hug trees and make rope and collect berries. Then they decide to go on a death defying journey across the world to dwarf fortress to try and make a profit by getting Master class weapons from their berries and rope.

I just send them home with a bunch of used goblin clothes. As much as they are capable of carrying, in hopes their mules break their backs on the journey somewhere, leaving them stranded in the middle of a jungle.

Then a bunch of mandrills show up, and the elves are all "Aww, adorable creatures!", then they get mauled to death.

The irony would be grand.

Mzbundifund, I laughed out loud at this.  Do you object if I use part of your masterful insult in my sig quote?

Just reading through DM of the Rings, which everyone should read, and found the perfect Dwarf Fortress comic: http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?p=762

A-HA! OOTS! and a good one at that.

As for elves, I always drown them.  They want nature, they can have their nature, in quantity. How does 5,000 gallons of all natural riverwater sound to you? good? ok *click* *whoosh* *gurgle gurgle*
