Dawn of Worlds: Sol [Round 1]
« on: September 22, 2015, 10:53:03 pm »

What and why?
So, I've wanted to try Dawn of Worlds for awhile now. The concept is simple: it's a world generation game, you play as gods and shape a world, civilizations, and history. But the cool part is that after you've done so, you can use the world you generated for other games, or as history and back lore for literature. It's a pretty thrilling concept.

Here's the full rulebook: http://www.clanwebsite.org/games/rpg/Dawn_of_Worlds_game_1_0Final.pdf

So how do you play?:
The rounds starts out by rolling two dice for each player, these are your points. You can then choose to either spend those points that round, or wait and stockpile all or some of your points to spend on another round. World generation is divided into three ages, each with a set limit on number of rounds that can be played before going into the next age. With each age the cost to perform different actions changes, making it either more feasible to create land, races, or civilizations.

Your goal is to control more of the world then anyone else at the end of the game, through subterfuge, brute force, alliances, or whatever means
Or you know, to cause as much fun as you can for everyone else

Here's the power table:

Seems fun, I'd like to play
Awesome!, just fill out this information sheet, and I'll add you to the active player list. Once we have 6-8 players, I'll upload the empty map and we'll start playing.

To spice things up, we'll add god types, and configure the rolling system to change based on what type of god you are
Standard : Highest two dice out of three rolled.
Eldritch : Two dice + 2 points
Celestial : One dice + 5 points
Fiend: Three dice - 4 points

Code: [Select]
Name:
God Type:
God's Affinity: (Fire, life, death, clocks, whatever you want really. You can be the god of cookies and space if you so desire.)
Description:

So wait, how will rounds work?

At the start of the round I'll roll for your points and update the map.
You'll have three days to respond after the start of the round before it ends. If you don't say anything, your points will just be accumulated.

We'll be playing with a small map and a decent amount of players, so the ages will go as follows:
Age 1 ends after round 5
Age 2 ends after round 10
Age 3 ends after round 16

I've played this before on another forum. It was really fun, but it ended up dying due to inactivity and godmodding...

One question I have though: Do I get a bonus for actions concerning my affinity, or is that just flavor?

It's mostly for flavor, I don't want to divulge to far from the core rules, also it gives people a little more options for how they can react to a situation. My thought process is that as otherworldly powerful beings, you should be able to do what you wish with the power you have.

Name: Elembroth
God Type: Eldritch
God's Affinity: God of Light
Description: Oldest of the gods, Elembroth has no physical form. When he does manifest himself, he usually takes the appearance of a tall Elf with blazing green eyes. Any mortal to peer into those eyes usually has intense feelings of guilt. If the mortal is still holding eye contact, his eyes become cloudy.

Name: X'obirutia (Just Xo for short)
God Type: Eldritch
God's Affinity: Seasons, plentiful harvest
Description: X'obirutia is one of the more benevolent eldritch horrors in the world, earning it quite the reputation. Typically represented as a female, Xo is the reason that the world and its star dance eloquently around one another, creating the seasons. With the seasons changing, crops grow and mature, and she is also typically aligned with a good harvest season. When not taking a female avatar, Xo is a tentacled mass, such that if you did not know what it was you would be terrified.

Did a monte carlo simulation of the God types, and all the others have roughly similar averages, but fiend is extremely low at only 6.5 per turn on average (unless I screwed up). The others have 8.5 to 9. I would recommend buffing fiend a bit.

This sounds fun. Working on a sheet now.

Name: Kasmodel
God Type: Celestial
God's Affinity: Clocks and Ghosts
Description: Patron of scribes and natural scientists, tasked with maintaining causality and ensuring the world ticks on in its natural and proper order. Physically manifests as a scholar wearing elbow-length golden hair, white robes, a scholar's hat, and an expressionless face. He often appears in many close places at once, but he never interacts with himself.
He holds an hourglass in one hand and a white codex in the other, in which he sketches the names and portraits of those who have lived and died.

(5) You manage to struggle free of the guards and sprint to a safe distance before tossing a knife at one! (5 + 1 = 6) The throwing knife zips through the air, slitting a guard's throat! It then travels around the group of guards like a boomerang. It (5) Slits another throat, (Three 6's in a row!) decapitates three more (!), (4) slices open the last guard's arm, and (2) narrowly misses a random bystander. It then flies back into your hand. Holy crap.

Name: Za-Aeros
God Type: Eldritch
Affinity: Wind, rain, and storms.
Description: A roughly cylindrical mass of storm clouds, roughly two hundred feet tall and fifty feet in diameter. Occasionally one might get a glimpse of a tentacle, or see the vague outline of something hidden inside the storm; seeing his true form any longer than this tends to drive mortals insane, if not kill them outright.

Sol
"Let us be silent, that we may hear the whispers of the gods." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Red light glares across the sandy wastes, edges dipping off into the abyss of space. Here, floating around Helios the red giant lies Sol, a floating island of waste quite unlike any other. Not a spec life roaming the barren surface, only movement being the flecks of sand as they were torn about by harsh solar wind. Very little sound could be heard, only the comforting cackle of wind across the empty floating island.

Suddenly a burst of intense white light ignited the sky. Before it had even faded more flashes sparked into life, erupting across space. Different hues and tones as the atmosphere became a beautiful chaos of colors and light. But there seemed to be a pattern, they came closer and closer to Sol, for some inexplicable reason power was being drawn here.

Sol would soon have a new name: Playground of Gods.
