"I've been trying to figure that out myself, actually. Who, if I may inquire, are you?"

The voice considers, a deep, quiet thunder the rumbling sound of its thoughts. "Hmmm. How strange not to know who you are. I am old, old; time is not to me what it is to you, but still the rings lie many around my trunks, and my shoots have grown and fell and grown anew uncounted times."

"Can you tell me where I must go to find who I am?" you ask, but the voice replies, "I do not know; 'go' is something I do not do, so you must choose your journey's way."
"My branch seemed important to you, though, so if it helps you on your road, take it, friend, and find yourself." The tree shivers, shakes and the branch falls into your hand.

A gift in hand, the land once again rises before you, a choice to be made.

The trees seem pretty friendly, I say we go left!

You thank tree for the gift of its limb, and stand then in indecision. Awhile you think and consider, and then thither the forest you go.

The trees grow thicker, and you find in your path a great bear, carefully reaching into a tree for something just too far away.

Try to throw the stick somewhere far, the bear surely will go catch it!

But if the bear acts aggressive, then we should try to talk it down.

You throw the stick, it goes flying over the bear. Crashing through the branches, it falls and stands upright in the ground.

The shaggy creature looks curiously at the new little tree that just sprouted from the ground. Turning around, a deep rumbling sound as the bear asks, "Why would throw that away? Were you not wanting it anymore?"

Say: "I thought you would catch it somehow. At least it is a new tree now."
