If an item is damaged, e.g. the Xs around its name, does its trade value decrease?

I would assume it would count against their profits if it doesn't make it off the map. As long as they don't run a deficit it should be fine. The number of items they bring next year is proportional to their profit.

And it should be quite unusual to have a large number of clothing items that worn down enough to risk being completely worn away. I believe the wear rate is considerably lower for unused items than that of items worn.

I once met a dragon after which a few crafts turned damaged. They were worth abnormally little, so I guess it does decrease their worth. Maybe it doesn't apply to clothes.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

IIRC, clothes will only wear out while being used OR while in a refuse stockpile. If stocked on the trade depot it should be fine.

I'm using some modified decay scripts, so food will be regularly vanishing.

Nope. Most organic items constantly experience a very low rate of wear (1 level every 100 years, corrected to 1 level every 20 years by dfhack). High and low temperatures can also cause item wear, which can notably impact trade depots built on the surface in frozen climates.

My bad. 75% isn't that noticeable at given clothing values. Dwarves tend to swap for new clothes before it gets any worse, and I sell on the next caravan.

Is the value loss multiplicative to the total value, or just subtractive off the base value? In other words, do masterworks lose more value than non-quality items or just the same when they decay? I would assume value from decorations is unaffected, but I could be wrong.

Wear applies its value multiplier to the summed-up total value of the item, including decorations: a masterful pig tail fibre coat from masterful pig tail cloth is rated at 908☼ in pristine condition, at 681☼ when slightly worn. An exceptional mussel shell decoration only adds 37☼ to a xshirtx, no-quality dimple dye only 15☼ etc.

One more reason to keep old clothes out of jewellers' shops.

LOL if you have a fort that even experiences wooden items with wear ( 100 years ) then you have won the game anyway :P I akin this to having forts where you dwarves die of old age...

There was some guy posting on the what's happening in your fort thread a few days ago the could run a fort at 1700 FPS, with an ingame year every five minutes, completely stable. No idea what he did with it, though. I reckon he could get wear, if he tried, in vanilla.
