My poor dwarves at one fort had NOTHING but obsidian to work with. I still remember their first artifact: This is an Obsidian scepter, all craftdwarvesmanship is of the highest quality. It has rings of obsidian, and Menaces with spikes of Obsidian. On the scepter is a carving of an Obsidian scepter in Obsidian.

Oh, whah, I have one of the best stones in the game to work with in abundance.

Obsidian: Better than mudstone.

Mudstone: Better than Silty loam.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the cosmos. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips, I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my veins. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk and free throw.

Only in that it can contain ore. As a rock itself it sucks; I'd rather have the arable soil.

Actually, as a rock it rocks.  If I'm not mistaken, it's worth more than any other.

It's still nowhere near silver or gold or iron, but it's more valuable than mudstone.

Stonecrafts made of Obsidian easily allow you to buy yo8ur first iron anvil from the first dwarven caravan that arrives  :D

I don't know if you read my post fully, Lyrax, but I was saying that mudstone, as a stone, is pretty lousy. Obsidian definitely has its uses.

Hey, Kagus, does that work with trap components too?  Because I just got my second legendary stonecrafter and I need to set up some defenses.

Or for that matter, obsidian arrows.
