We take our first steps into the Oreburgh City Gym, gazing towards the man standing high on a plateau of solid rock at the far end of the gym, as well as the trainers blocking our path. The statues by the entrance draw my attention, as it seems that every trainer who has beaten the Gym Leader had his name engraved on them. The name "Randy Savage" will fit nicely on it... right next to "Ric Flair".
"Hey there, Champ-to-be!"
Those words drown out the rest of whatever that weird guy says... 'Champ-to-be' huh? Sounds like we've got our goal set for the Championship and nothing less.
Putting
Ultimate Warrior in front, we charge through the weak trainers in our way, taking zero damage. The last trainer before the Gym Leader gives us our first taste of fame; the words that every wrestler wants to hear: "One day, I'm going to become a tough wrestler like you!" Along with Ric Flair, and (arguably) Diamond Dallas, we've got another man who could contest our Championship! This is truly going to be the greatest journey that Randy Savage, Macho Man has ever experienced.
We finally stand in front of the Gym Leader at the highest point in the gym; a ring of stone lays between us, practically inviting us to use it.
"Welcome! This is the Oreburgh Pokemon Gym! I'm Roark, the Gym Leader. I'm but one trainer who decided to walk proudly with Rock-type pokemon! As a Gym Leader, I need to see your potential as a trainer, and I'll need to see the toughness of the pokemon that battle with you!"*As we ready to send out our Pokemon, Ric Flair dashes up the stairs with a microphone in hand, as well as a... camera man?
"Just in time! I can't wait to see you screw this up, minchi man, and I'm getting it all on TV! That's right folks," He looks into the camera with his trademark Douchebag Smile
tm,
"this is live coverage of the Pokewrestling match between the challenger, Macho Man, and the Oreburgh Gym Leader, Roark! As far as odds go, I'd say Macho Man is at a disadvantage. Only one of his pokemon has any hope of doing damage to Roark's three Rock-types. Now, let's get ready to battle!"We send out
Ultimate Warrior, by far our strongest pokemon, and Roark retaliates by sending out his Geodude.
"I take it back, folks! Ultimate Warrior not only has a double type-advantage, meaning grass attacks do FOUR times as much damage for some serious devastation, but it also has a solid four levels on Geodude. It looks like the match has started and just wow! For being a turtle, Ultimate Warrior has some serious speed and manages to take down Geodude with a Razor Leaf before it can even react! ...and it looks like it's down for the count, so Roark sends out his next pokemon, Onix. Again, same type-advantages and same level advantage for Ultimate Warrior yet Onix manages to out-speed it all the same. Laying down a nasty Stealth Rock for any pokemon who dares to step into the ring, Onix has prepared for the sweep, but it looks like Ultimate Warrior is not worried in the slightest and casually takes him down with a single Razor Leaf yet again! Now it's time for the finisher, the big boss of Roark's pokemon!"Ric gets the camera man to lean in close to the action, as Roark sends out his final pokemon against
Ultimate Warrior.
"And what a final pokemon! A pokemon you hear tales about, the wrecking-ball of the pokemon world, the fiercely resilient Cranidos! Y'know folks, I don't even know what the type is! The difference between a single and double type-advantage is massive, and could decide the outcome of this match! Both pokemon are staring each other down, just waiting for the other to-- oh and there's the light-speed step-in by Cranidos with a massive Headbutt! The momentum carried over from the step-in gives that move incredible destructive power, but Ultimate Warrior is still standing strong! A severe hit for sure, but now Ultimate Warrior releases a devastating Razor Leaf that shreds Cranidos' defenses and takes it down to the mat! It doesn't seem as Cranidos can move, and both Macho Man and Roark can feel the tension in the air. ...it seems like it's a knock-out! Cranidos is down for the count as well as Roark! This match is over in a blinding victory by the Macho Man himself! I'll catch you next time, next match folks."You could practically feel Ric's smugness as he heads out of the Gym with camera man in tow. We turn our attention back to Roark, who takes a stool from a compartment in the wall (hey, Gym Leaders get tired from standing still for hours all day) and takes out a case emblazoned with the Gym's insignia behind it.
"This is embarrassing... I went and lost to a trainer who didn't have a single Gym Badge... but that's tough. You were strong, and I was weak. That's all there is. According to Pokemon League rules, I have to give you our Gym Badge since you've beaten me. Here's your official Pokemon League Coal Badge!"*The Coal Badge gleams in our badge case as we walk outside to the pokemon center. The first of eight steps in our journey to fight the champion has been accomplished, now all we need to do now is point ourselves in the right direction and beat anyone in our way.
The * denotes that this is more-or-less the actual dialogue spoken. Anyway, that is the Oreburgh gym completed! Next time, we'll probably be heading back to Jubilife on our way towards the next Gym Leader and this is where my previous knowledge runs out, so uhh... that'll be fun.
