Sorry for double-post, but questions: Would chainmail be able to be concealed under clothes? And do we still get the Human racial traits?

Chainmail is concealable under heavy clothing (i.e. a thick coat), but it's going to be bulky. Smart or perceptive people can probably work out that you have armour.

And would leather armor be concealable?

Perhaps a more sensible way to do it would be that is it has a stealth disadvantage, you can try to conceal it. Armour is bulky.

I'm assuming, if we go by real life, that the only weapons not considered weird would be rapiers (or side-swords, if you wish) for civilians and sabres (scimitars) for professionals. Clubs and daggers for common people.

Also, how does one calculate starting gold? Or rather, can I use my starting gold to buy extra equipment? I'm not sure how the rules work here. It seems like very generous rules if you het both the basic equipment of your class and background plus your starting gold, so I get suspicious that that might jot be the case.

Swords aren't considered that weird, no. A greatsword might raise eyebrows, but there's enough variantion in swords in use they won't really be considered weird.

As far as I understand you have your starting equipment or your starting gold. One or the other.
