It lacks addons and has silverlight? Two things I do not care about.
When do you use java, or anything that isn't flash or javascript?

How about nearly complete html5 support and fast rendering and fantastic integration. Oh yeah,I forgot to mention the annotation mode, which allows you to draw annotations on any webpage which are persistent. Not important if you aren't used to taking notes on the internet, but if you are, it's a godsend.

Yes, that sounds good. But can it do what I want it to do with no addons? Almost certainly not. It is like trying to convince people win8 is good by describing the slightly faster startup time.

According to speed tests (I'd love to give you a linky, but long day of work and I don't remember where my stat came from) It's not just a little faster. It's somewhere along the lines of (estimate) 7-8 times faster. Than chrome, the faster of the widely-used browsers (still doesn't compete with Opera though)

Yet the main limitation in my internet browsing isn't the browser speed though, but my internet one. It doesn't matter how fast I can load the page in the browser if I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for the server to actually be able to send me the stuff to load. I know that at least where I am at there is literally no noticeable difference between chrome, firefox, or safari in normal usage since the thing acting as a limit is the download speed, not the browser loading speed. I could switch to a magical browser that could load pages instantly and it literally would not make any sort of difference in how fast I could browse the internet because the slow point isn't the browser at all.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Opera actually will fix this though. It automagically compresses pages to between 1/2 and 1/8ish (mostly through NOT loading hd pictures as full hd and such). I've tested and can verify, Opera's Turbo feature is both neat (doesn't load ads, so that's a plus) and highly effective. Fast browser speed + compresses pages = it works quick, even on slow networks.

Yeah, but my opinion is that opera is cancer. Though saying so on a Windows 10 thread seems to be unhelpful to the purpose of the thread.

I like windows 10, definitely better than 8, 8.1, or 7.

Fuck xp though. That operating system received way too much praise in my opinion.

It like the indie game of web browsers: Yes, its there, but no one really pays attention to it unless its pointed out. Except the people that use it.

I tried Opera once. I found that it ran noticeably *slower* than my other browsers, and I could never get things like flash and java to work properly on it no matter how much I tried to update the plugins. Even javascript tended to be pretty glitchy. So it may not be so universally good. Might depend on other factors. Idunno.

I used to use Opera Mini on an old java-enabled non-smart phone (remember those?) it was the only decent browser...

I haven't used Opera itself in a very long time. Apparently now it uses the chrome rendering / layout engine, so you might as well just use chrome.

Have you guys noticed that Microsoft is now pushing 10 through Windows Update?

Look:

It is too soon, senpai!

Luckily that update can be hidden on 7.

That's been available for months now.

Sorta nice, actually, considering that it's a free upgrade with basically no downside. Either thank-god-it's-not-8 or 7/XP's interface via shell with faster boot speed. FWIW when I upgraded my mom's laptop for her back in August or so, her boot speed went from ~30 seconds to ~5-10.

Apart from the stuff enabling direct-x 12, it's not that different to 8.1 under the hood. But the UI is what people complained about with 8, so lots of people consider 10 a huge upgrade: depending on what OS they had before they see it as either 8 with a "less-shit start menu", or 7 but with lots of improvements (most of which really came from 8, but they don't know that).

Haha, goddammit...

First, the annoying notifications on the task-bar, then some Windows Update shenanigans, and finally (despite the fact that I hid that Win10 update) a big honkin' window that pops up every time I run WU.

Okay, Microsoft, you win. I'll take your bloody update, if it's so bloody fucking important to you.
(Mental note to never, ever buy another Microsoft product again.)
