Two things:

First: to get a monster on the monster list you should get it Appraised by Jeremy. He'll tell you a little bit about what he knows of it. Other NPCs may know more too.

Second: All monsters have a personality (except your starters), which may effect how they act. Personalities aren't a huge deal, and they can change, but a monster with an angry personality may react very different to commands than a monster with a cowardly personality.

Hey, so just to be clear, I had no chance of recruiting a crocoman at all, right?

if its a humanoid it would have to have some level of intelligence right?

you probably cant collar them and have them behave, but surely you could convince them in other ways?

Not from there no. They're basically the town guards. Humanoids can be recruited, but they have to be convinced, not collared.

Heheh, makes sense. I guess during the fight I somehow knew that, but I didn't really know about the whole organization behind him until the temple.

If I run into another Crocoman I won't stop trying to convince them, that's for sure, but I guess I would have to either find one of their criminals or convince one of their young while in the wild; and certainly I'd have to stay on the temple's good side while doing so.

When I get to the guild, I guess it's Jeremy time for me.
