Just wondering if anyone is excited about this game. It is the first English release in years and I picked it up on a whim. It is available on PS3 and PS4 as well as Steam (PC). I picked it up at Steam.

If you buy it within the first week, you get a discount and some extra DLC (scenarios).

Here is Steam link: [http://store.steampowered.com/app/392470]. From what I have gathered the PS ports are very similar to PC version. It runs smoothly on my laptop.

I am having a blast with it so far. I started playing Nobunaga's Ambition II on dosbox a year or two ago (I never played the NES SNES versions, although I was aware of them. So I was psyched to see a shiny new version that fixes some of those out of date UI issues I had.

Synopsis: You can choose to play a clan in feudal Japan. You can choose from famous ones like Oda, Uesugi, Takeda, Date, Mori, Imagawa, etc, they got 'em all. Or you can create your own (I have not done this yet; I am a purist - Oda all the way). The game from what another reviewer has stated sits between Civilization and Europa Universalis in terms of complexity. I would tend to agree so far. There is a lot of strategic elements like how to run your clan, but you also have a battle system. Some negative reviewers have called it simplistic, but it's not gonna be Total War. And total war is not 100% accurate. During this era, there were Samurai who employed yari on both foot and horseback. And there were Ashigaru - common foot soldiers - who employed bows (yumi), arquebuses (teppo), and nagae yari, which were long spears. That was it, but this was an interesting time in history and this game has so far scratched those itches.

Has anyone bought it? Anyone interested? Thoughts?

For me I'm playing on PC on difficulty level normal. This is my third attempt. I'm doing quite well in 1554 Dec, 3+ years into my scenario.

Things that I like: diplomacy system, building system, being able to lure disaffected samurai from other clans to yours when they defect or sabotage the enemy, the battle system (others have critiqued it as I have said, but I like it so far).

Any way let me know what you think!

I bought this last week but haven't had a chance to really sit down and delve into it.

Watching these posts.

Nobunaga's Ambition series is pretty much the Japan equivalent to the Romance of the Three Kingdom series of China, made by the same company, Koei.
I'll probably eventually pick this up eventually, too busy with MGSV right now.

Looking at the top review in the steam page... it looks like Koei finally included the PUK into the International version of one of their games.  Which they typically have not done before now (I'm kinda salty over that...).  PUK is basically an awesome expansion which increases customization options and adds in more stuff/features not included in the base game.

I'm actually rather enjoying it so far. I've been itching for a Romance of the Three Kingdoms-esque game for a long time (considering the last English release of RotTK was something like 2007 or 2008).

Some of it's a bit simplified compared to other entries in the Romance series, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You can simply choose a target, and all available nearby owned castles will send out a unit capable of fighting, for example, but this makes it much less painful to micromanage.

The combat system feels a little bit like Total War lite, which isn't a bad thing, but you have to go in and manually control them if you wish to do so. Otherwise, they will automatically fight through the strategic phase without any input from you.

Agree and agree.

I am still confused on some things, but all and all I am having a blast and it sure beats playing this version on dosbox (good but outdated, haha): [http://www.mobygames.com/game/nobunagas-ambition-ii].

I am now in 1555, plugging along as the Odas with 6 castles. :)

I read the title as Noriega's Ambition.

He really doesn't have reason to be ambitious these days.

Bought it at release, haven't had enough time to really play yet.  Did enjoy what I played so far (first game was as the Mori; a minor mistake, since the earliest date is before they threw off the Ouchi), like how they included the PUK this time for the first time ever, and while I only played for a little bit, it was basically a pleasant bit of fun.

Also, did have enough time to discover Samurai Cats mode. :P

Japnyan is best Japan.

Just bought it myself, playing as a custom guy because I like fucking history in the butt. Started a new clan.

I like playing as custom characters in these and Romance of the Three Kingdoms because I don't know the people so well and like learning about them through interaction.

Well since I was pressed for time with my last post, The clan I started, The Aki'Date clan (the Daimyo is a custom son of Teremune Date) is doing pretty damn well. Started just northwest of Rifu Castle run by my parent clan, have since conquered it and Myo, and made peace with the Date afterwards to boot. Then I took out the Saito, doubling my provinces and now I'm marching through the Nanbu up in the north which should double me up again.

Also whoever said combat is like "Total War Lite" doesn't know what they're talking about. Its...weird as shit to be honest :P
I mean there doesn't seem to be any difference between ranged and melee combat so far, which is incredibly odd, and...well that's about it actually. I mean, you have special tactics and such, but the core of battles is this weird "always ranged" lines thing.

I mean, I GET why they thought that, because movement is similar to TW excepting you can't really choose your facing very well, but the actual combat is fundamentally different, and rather inferior, naturally.

Still, loving the game so far, building up castles is interesting, still trying to get my original province to hit a high enough population that I can put another district on it.

Huh... I totally forgot about this game.  Apparently a standalone expansion is coming out.
http://www.koeitecmoamerica.com/ascension/index.html

There will be an officer mode, which is what I've been waiting for in a KOEI game for... years since the last one that came around in engrish language.

If I remember this time around, I'll grab it.

ROTK13 has an officer mode and was released in English on Steam a month or two back.

I picked up the latest iteration, Ascension.

Officer play is pretty much tacked on to the main game.  I don't believe you personally could even be captured, I tried as a lord with unlucky trait.  One of my officers did get captured in that test, he was executed...

On the lower levels, Retainer and Chamberlain... you have a dropship.  You could instantly be called into battle anywhere on the map.  For example, I was called 3 times in one month in separate battles across the map.
The downside, you can' bring out your own army, ever.  Even if the base you are sitting in is currently under siege and you have the ability to repel the attackers, you won't ever get the option to fight back.  Just sit there and wait for the enemy to take down the walls and capture the place while you have a full army to fight back with.

At least it gets better once you become a Lord.  Though, the AI currently won't raise up other Lords if you are in the clan, so if the clan starts with 2 Lords and 3 Castles... and gains 15 castles, it'll still be only 2 Lords.

Fun fact: Female officers/players can't have random children or get married.
