Nope, they don't live in specific locations. They live in the wilderness. And they'll generally fight back, but nothing to worry about, mostly.

[D] caps. I think. And just wander around the wilderness until you meet an animal. Not in fast travel. Or you can just kill and eat whoever's nearest, I used to do that.
