OOC and Sign Up Thread

Snatched from the Circus, jostled, dragged and pokes, launched into space and through unknown portals beyond their understanding, six beings are dumped at last, weary and confused (and at least a little bit angry) into a lightly colored, lit room. The floor is tile, the ceiling is some kind of wood. The walls, well, there don't appear to be any. Instead, the floor changes to a steel grey outside of a square area about thirty feet to a side. in every direction, similar areas dot the area, some with walls, some with bars, one with what looks like black smoke, roiling violently, yet never moving beyond some undefined border.

Caged!
Panicked, the bird attempts to fly away, and discovers that there is some kind of invisible force field keeping it from fleeing. The humans look closer, and discover a glass like material, against which the bird repeatedly smashes itself. The bear tries to smash out, too, luckily on the other side of the room from the humans - that bear in a tutu seems pretty upset. The kitten just pees a little and cowers in  a corner. And the umbrella? It vent's it's rage by scratching things.

Fed
After some time, food is delivered through the roof. It is just poured in unceremoniously into a pile in the center of the room. Everyone eats, though some more reluctantly than others, then they sleep, whether out of exhaustion or because the food was drugged, none knew. Only the humans (and maybe the umbrella) had the capacity to even consider it.

pushed
Upon awakening, after the bird smashes itself against the window for a while, and food is once more delivered and consumed, a doorway is opened into a dimly lit, dark tan hallway. It is only visible from the doorway - from the sides only the room full of cages is evident. Small shocks and a sudden air pressure guide the six into the hallway.

Armed?
Down the hallway they go, into a room lined with objects. the humans recognize some of them as weapons, spears, axes, guns, and more. there are various types of armor present as well. In the middle of the room, a pillar, six feet tall with articulated arms gestures, waving at the walls in what appear to be inviting motions.

*crouch* *stalk* *rear up, tiny paws outstretched**bat* *jump back and fall over on your side* *bat* *scampre* *stalk* *claw-kreeeeeeeeeeee*  *scamper*

Look at the pillar, then walk to the weapons and pick one up.
The pillar is a steel grey, a foot or so in diameter, the same thickness top to bottom, which is apparently flush with the floor. The many arms wave, motion, point, and retract as you move about, making varying gestures depending on which object you are focusing on at a given time. It does at one point make an annoying screech sound and you jump, drawing back from the eighteen inch serrated knife you were about to pick up. But when you look at the pillar, you notice the kitten's claws dragging down it, before the kitten bolts of into a corner in terror.

Curiously, you notice a greenish highlight in the region of some items when you look at them for a few moment. Some items do not receive this glow, and some appear to dim as you approach them. You pick up a short baton, made of what appears to be wood. It is solid in your hand, and has slight indentations on one end where you would wield it. The other end appears unremarkable.

See if I can affix a big piece of armor to a spear for a nice pole-club.
You grab a big spear and rush over to a ... It looks like a helmet, but is more spherical, and there is less room for a neck at the bottom. it also weighs more than any helmet you are familiar with. When you insert the end of the spear, the neck hole tightens on the spear shaft, making one seamless whole, apparently. You note that the helmet thingy had dimmed when you approached.

You swing your makeshift club and note that the helmet thingy wobbles on the end, the balance is too far toward the helemthingy, and it is pretty darn heavy. I bet that big ol' morning star, or even one of those maces would work better, as a melee weapon, eccentric bonus notwithstanding.

Skip on into the room with the pillar.
*hop bounce* *hop bounce* *hop bounce* Well, that is certainly a pillar with arms. You wonder vaguely if it hates humans as much as you do. Huh, looks like it is pointing out objects to them, and not tearing them limb from limb. So, that' a no. On the other hand, it IS pointing out a lot of apparently very violent things that could seriously maim or kill, both the target and possibly the user. You are a little disappointed in one human's choice of a stick, and a little more encouraged at the spear ...  no, wait ... he's sticking a sphere on that spear ... It wobbles. Now you are quite probably baffled.

Kea
Well, the Kea does kea things. lemme roll for that. Eh, it sort of flutters down on a shelf edge and starts picking it's feathers with it's beak.

Bear
Angry bear time. Angry bear seems ... mild. It snuffles about the room a bit, and bat at a few weapons on shelves, then chews a bit on a suit of armor on a display stand. The weapons dimmed as the bear approached, but the armor remained neutrally lit.

The Kea does more Kea stuff.

Take a knife and stab it into the baton, then wave it around (by the knife handle) to see if it falls off.
You pick up a sturdy dagger, about six inches in length. You rest the end of the baton on a shelf and carefully stab at the baton a few times, but the dagger tip just won't penetrate. Well, at least you were smart lucky enough not to stab yourself in the hand trying that.

Use my tongue to clean myself.  Purr appreciatively if someone decides to pet me.
Kitten in the corner clean clean clean. Nobody will pet him aw too bad.

Grab ahold of one of the nearest pillar arms and examine its every detail.
You leap at the pillar, grabbing at arms wildly. They are remarkably fast. You hop around for a little while, trying to get a grip on one, with no success.

(2+1 for improvised weapon +1 for stationary target.) You wind up, charge in, and swing hard. Two of the arms reach out, grab the spear and helmethingy and take them from you. You see a blinding flash of light, smell ozone and burnt hair, and are flung unceremoniously across the room. your vision clears, but your head hurts pretty badly where you hit it on something, and you ache all over. arms in the ceiling take the spear and helmethingy and replace them in their respective locations.

Heh heh. I was actually hoping one of the intelligent characters would attempt to armor you. Okay, roll or random armor, minus for intelligence, minus for vaguery. You locate  a bear-appropriate tutu and an ironic clown hat. They remind you of the circus, and your circus training kicks in. You rear back and dance a little, and arms from the ceiling reach out to assist you in placing these things on your body, discarding your old tutu to arm knows where.

That human gets too close, but jumps back before you can swipe. Pursue? Y/N

Oooookay. You (6) get too close. Oh dear, that's too close. (5 v 1) you jump back before the bear reacts.


Look here!
A sound, what can only be described as an alarm, sounds, and the room takes on a blinking yellow glow. A symbol, foreign to you, appears in the air above the pillar. You humans, dazed and distracted as you are, recognize from all those sci fi movies an alien countdown device. Whatever it is, you feel that you have about [2 turns] in this Monty Hall Armory before whatever happens happens.

Put down the baton to get chain leather armor. Wave the knife at whoever comes near. That means whoever else is getting weapons.
Okay, Rilay, thinking he dodged an angry bear there, turns to the armor, but the bear pursues, so Rilay doesn't have the time to either drop the baton nor pick up armor this round.

let's see speed 12 human vs 6 bear, dexterity 12 human vs 8 bear. Well, Lazlo is faster by virtue of bears being more than twice as fast as people. So Lazlo gains on Riley. Now for the attack and counter attack. Lazlo has a +2 to paw to paw, Rilay has no applicable bonus. Attack vs dodge (5 +1(second die came up 5) vs 5. Lazlo swipes a mighty paw out and catches Rilay hard in the chest. Meanwhile, Rilay swings with that dagger (6) and gets a solid stab in on the bear's arm, lodging the knife in the wound. Lazlo is now bleeding!

What was intended to be a full body slam ends up as mostly a hard throw down though, as Rilay managed to avoid much of the blow, and Lazlo never got a good grip. Alright resistance against blunt is 2, so (3, 6 - no bonus, needed a 4 or 5 on the second roll) Rilay hits the floor with a loud whump and whoosh of expelled air. Dex roll to hold onto weapons (19, needed 12 or lower, and 3). The knife pulls from Lazlo's wound and goes skittering across the floor, but Rilay manages to hold onto the baton.

You find a pair of chainmail gauntlets that look like heavy metal boxing gloves. Htat is, they have no fingers. You put them on, and they seal around your wrists tightly, but not painfully so. they are heavy, but they feel well balanced. Yes, these will counteract your -1 to unarmed, but they don't count as improvised. The bear and the other human are now fighting. They run past you, one after the other, and you are shouldered by the bear and sent flying into a display case. You bounce off without harm, maintaining your balance, but spilling several nasty pointy weapons onto the floor everywhere. Something that looks like a golden torso falls on your leg, and something that looks like a long, bone spike bonks you in the head. you are unharmed, but sore.

Look for a glowing boot for my bare foot and put it on, if none around are glowing, just put on whatever footwear I find.
alright, I'm going to type in "glowing boot" and see what comes up. uhhhhhhhh........ Okay, you find what looks like a sequined cowboy boot and wriggle your way into it. The straps are a bit challenging, but you get it on okay. The sequins appear to sparkle, occasionally shining. Lessee, oh yeah, bear rampage. You get stepped on pretty good, but they continue past, oblivious. you are pretty sore, but nothing broke.

Look around for a large sock that I can play with and hide in.

Well continue doing normal things to a kea... but counterattack when attacked.
You peck at something shiny. Then, startled, you fly away from the commotion the mammals are making.

Well, this is getting interesting. The kitten is armored, the bear is bleeding, one human is boxing and the other is winded, the umbrella got the boot. The kea is a bird.

Woah, if bears are faster, then he should have to use part of his skills to do that! Or does he really get a bonus due to race? It should in the skills, category, y'know? Not fair for him to be faster than me when I have higher stats ): So unless he gets a malus which is makes him worse by more than half at something... to even it out, right? (like a huge no magic/knowledge debuff)

Flying kick! Stand up and jump on him feet-first! If he's knocked down, hit him with the baton. If he attacks me, deflect with baton.

He get's bear stats. Yes, his knowledge of the world is going to be based entirely on instinct and circus training. Why do you think he is wearing a tutu and circus hat when he tried to put on armor? Be aware that uneven conflict is inevitable in this game, Joe Average Citizen. I mean, if you took it in your head to squish Cuddles, what's Cuddles gonna do about it? ;)

Edit: Also, You are in a Monty Haul Armory, and have, like, All the weapons at your disposal. So far, you've picked up a stick and a knife. And BG over there picked up a spear and his immediate action was to nerf it.

I give players specific instructions on what kind of characters i want, and they try to make space gods and magic GM killing demons. I give no instructions and I get ... two completely average people, two nearly harmless animals, a utensil, and a bear. :)) :)) :))

((I'll probably try a bit more seriously when I get a look for the battlefield but for now I'm going to do whatever comes to mind.
