Hi folks,
I'm not sure where/how to get assistance with this problem. As I'm using mods, I'm not sure that I'm supposed to submit a bug. I am using Dwarf Fortress 40_24 Starter Pack r15, with no other changes or modifications.
Over the course of the last three weeks, I have lost three fortresses to corrupted save files. They appear to save properly, as usual, but when I try to load them (in the most recent case during "loading artifacts," I get this typical message:
Dwarf Fortress.exe has stopped workingI am given the option to debug. When I do so, my (expired trial of) Visual Studio informs me that I had an
Unhandled exception at 0x01440944 in Dwarf Fortress.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x0000462E.Whether or not this is actually the cause of the crash, or the result of trying to debug something I don't have access to, I can't say.
At any rate, I uploaded the save to the File Depot:
http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=11105This save was corrupted on my Windows 7 laptop, but it crashes identically on my other Win7 gaming rig. An earlier fortress BECAME corrupted on the other computer, suggesting that it is not computer-specific. Foolishly, I deleted the previous save files.
I can't see any patterns in when these corruptions occur, and I'm not sure how significant the problem actually is. What I want most is to figure out a way to salvage the fortresses. For a while after the first corruption, I had the d.init settings to automatically backup the fortress, but it created a mess in the saves folder (which seemed strange to me). So I don't have a recent backup for this last fortress, my fave.
Please advise, good dwarffolk. It really takes the wind out of my Dwarven sails; it doesn't encourage investing time in another fortress.
