Aren't Trade Ships always useful for storage? They improve Harbor's capacity by 1% with the right upgrade, and since they're a craft their price is fixed (Well, actually get cheaper as your Workshop efficiency increase). I guess that at some point, the cheapest storage is just more ships.

Is there a list of what upgrades will survive a reset and which won't?

By default, these survive a reset:

 * Karma
 * Paragon
 * Metaphysics upgrades purchased using paragon
 * Black liquid sorrow

No. The cargo ships upgrade gives diminishing returns past 150% and stops at 275%

243 is the sweet spot for zebra trading. 275 is the cutoff for storage gains. I think you continue to gain titanium trade quantities indefinitely, but it's like 33 ships to get an extra 1 titanium per trade. At that point you might be better off building calciners. You might possibly want to keep building trade ships in order to turn them into tankers for oil storage, but I haven't personally found that to be necessary. It's easier to simply build more oil wells. Though I haven't reached the later space missions yet. There might come a point where tankers are the only practical solution. I don't know.

Also, harbors are incapable of storing any resources after titanium regardless of the number of trade ships you have. If you're in late game and want to store uranium and unobtanium, trade ships won't help you. Instead you'll want reactors, moon bases and mining vessels, the latter two of which both require starcharts in large quantities.

Indeed, though I can confirm the titanium quantity boost keeps going; bought a bunch on a whim right before a reset, then once more to get my titanium to a nice round number.

Right on the cusp of grabbing Theology, nearly a century in. I think I've been on it since the mid-50s, if not earlier. Here's the situation:

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Looks about right to me. Couple questions though:

1) Your wood to mineral production ratio looks a little low. You could build some more lumber mills, of course, but it's pretty normal to have fewer mills than mines. I wonder, though: are you missing some relevant upgrades? Steel axe/steel mill maybe?

2) Why do you have only one of your smelters online? Looks like you aren't in contact with the zebras yet so it's not a huge deal, but why only one? If you're doing it to keep them from burning up all your wood, you might be better off turning them all on and building more mils mills and getting the steel upgrades if you don't have them.

3) Why are you making gears? If you're saving up for a steamworks, you'd probably benefit more from steel upgrades in the workshop. Wood and catpower upgrades, I would think. Steamworks require blueprints, and you only have one, so you're only going to be able to make one. And with all your smelters off, you're not going to have much gold to trade for more.  If you're planning to build a steamworks tyo help with manuscripts, that might be a difficult proposition at present.

4) Speaking of manuscripts, be forewarned that after you research Theology, the next research requires 65 manuscripts, then 100. You're going to want more catpower income soon. Might even want to add your next new kitten or two to it. Though looks like your limited by culture to about 2.5 manuscripts every 5 minutes. Theology will help with that eventually.

Also, maybe it's just me, but I used to never make stuff like gear until right before using them. If I build one more workshop before needing the gear, I get the extra some percents.

Left it to AFK overnight.

1) Nope, woodcutters are all upgraded. (However, only ten of my kittens were on wood. I've now boosted that up to 21 by swiping some scholars and miners. I've hit upon keeping my wood:minerals ratio at about 2:3, since I generally need more minerals for buildings than wood.)

2) I keep switching between having only a few smelters online to boost mineral/wood production, and then turning them on to boost iron.

3) I was saving up for printing press...though yes, it may be wiser to boost infrastructure.

4) Yeah, I'm currently saving up for Astronomy, and luckily I've spent enough on Workshops (I currently have 31) that the bottleneck right now isn't manuscripts but science storage. Getting some more Academies going will help with that...and libraries, they're still respectably cheap, though probably only for the next ten of them or so.

You can build libraries before you even understand writing?

The flavor text of writing does mention paw prints, so perhaps it's either instructional drawings or Morse code or something.

Just reset at 62 kittens after realizing that early overinvestment in science and silly infrastructure like steamworks was digging me into a hole. Hoping to get well into paragon range this go-around.

The build order that I've seen bandied about is: storage, followed by production, followed by population, followed by science, and don't even spend anything on steamworks until you get magnetos. We'll see how this goes.

Having thousands upon thousands of wood and other materials locked up in observatories and other science buildings, however, is. Point is, I I was at a decent reset spot and felt like my poor choices earlier in the game had locked me into a cycle of needing to spend lots of money on storage in order to have enough space to stockpile the materials to get more storage which then just becomes even more expensive...

Nothing is intractable in this game, but it can get so slow that you want to cut your losses at a good spot and start it up again with a clearer idea of how you want to work things. I think that's part of the beauty of the reset button...it's not just for the bonuses, it's there so you can have another go at things and improve.
