I'd love to play Blightfall with mom, but at the moment it doesn't seem possible. Her computer is very old and slow, and she has no plans to buy a new one. Also, I showed her some videos and she was terrified (all the more reason to play with her, I say - how funny would the videos be?). She says she's still "not ready" for monsters. I'll get her eventually...

I do plan to do some building underground, but I've never been interested in tech. I will do my best to learn how to automate as much as I can, since it seems to be necessary in this pack, especially in Thaumcraft. I'm learning bit by bit on the multiplayer server. The sand and clay is indeed for a smeltery, but I'll probably focus the next episode on mining and gathering some basic materials before I worry about renovating. I do have big plans for renovation, though. I'll get there eventually. I wish I had more time to work on this.

I haven't thought far enough ahead to think about ranged weapons yet. I know the shock focus on a wand can work really well, but ShadeofDead did that on his LP (he's nearly at the endgame already), and I figure I should do something different. In fact, since he has done so much with his LP in terms of progress, I'm thinking I'll try to focus mine on just being different and trying unexpected things. Building interesting structures, finding unusual ways to get to certain things, etc. Something that hasn't already been done before. Any tips or advice on things like ranged weapons and automation are very welcome. I'd also like to make the auto-miner thing from Thaumcraft as early as I possibly can manage it - anyone know where/how to research that? It'll make a lot of things a lot easier. I know it'll take a while to work my way up to that, but I want to make it a semi-priority. I have plans for it.

One other thing - any tips on keeping my wand charged? I haven't gotten that far in the LP, but in my other single-player game, my wand is constantly running out of vis. Especially water. For some reason I can never find enough water vis, and killing mobs doesn't even seem to drop it very often. I know I can search the world for nodes and drain them, but that gets really tedious, really fast.

How about adding in "monsters" slowly by adding dangerous wildlife like sharks?

Aquatic mobs should drop aquatic vis. Nodes found over water should have Aqua more often, I think one of the pair between swamp delta and the underwater lab has a useful amount. Failing that, theres a bunch on the ice north of dome gamma. Primal charms will give you a point of a random aspect every few seconds. Its not enough to be really useful unless you fill half your inventory with them, though.

Further into the game, the node in a jar research lets you relocate nodes, and eventually you can energize a node and build a vis charging relay, which will recharge a want at up to 1 vis per second.

We just tried this on the server, no spoilers, but Energizing a Node that contains Humanis or an aspect that includes Humanis will generate Centivis for all 6 primals which can be transported via Vis Relay to a Wand Recharging Station for infinite vis of every aspect, usually at a good speed too.

Nodes in general seem a bit uncommon in this pack (I think all of the other tainted packs play with 300% and greater nodes), but most of the bases seems to have decent nodes (A lot more compound aspects than usual) within reach (Except Omega). And you can always bottle a node if taint is an issue.

PS: Mini Tainticles and Taint Swarms both drop vis, and are spawned by immobile taint mobs, they can be fought for a steady trickle of every aspect of vis, but it is annoying to fight them, and much slower than tapping existing nodes.

PPS: I missed the last line of the post above so to add some more content to my post regarding Energised nodes.

An energised node generates CentiVIs (cVis) or 1 / 100 a point of vis. When a node is energized it takes the current value of the existing aspects and Square roots them (Rounding down to integer).

E.G. a 26 Humanis, 16 Ordo Node would be reduced to: 5 Humanis, 4 Ordo.

The Compound Aspects are Reduced until they are Primal Aspects, if a compound aspect reduces into the same Primal more than once, the extras do not have any effect. (E.G. Spiritus is made of Mortus and Victus, and Mortus is made of Victus. Victus is made of terra and aqua but 5 spiritus reduces to 5 aqua and 5 terra (and some other resources not from victus), not 10 aqua and 10 terra)

Finally if an energised node has more than one primal aspect of the same type only the largest value is used for each primal aspect.

The 26 / 16 Node mentioned above, reduces to (5 Terra, 5 Aqua, 5 Ignis, 5 Perditio, 5 Ordo, 5 Aer) from Humanis and 4 Ordo. The node would generate a base of 5 of each element ignoring the 4 ordo because it is less than the 5 ordo generated by the 26 humanis.

Square Root of Value of Aspects, Reduce to Primals, Highest Vaue for Each Primal: is measured as ##cVis/tick (1/100th of a Vis per tick)

## cVis / tick  *  20 ticks / second  =  20*## cVis / second

20*## cVis / second * 1 Vis / 100 cVis = ## Vis / 5 Seconds





tl;dr  The Square root of the value of the aspect at the moment the node is energised (rounded down) divided by 5 is the Vis per second recharge rate for that aspect. (Normal values are between .8 / second and 1.4 / second)

Sorry for the delay. I've been really sick and even after I finished the episode, I wasn't going to the office so I didn't have access to any fast internet. In fact, the main reason I actually came to work today instead of working from home again was so I could upload this! Hope it's worth the wait. More as soon as I can get healthy enough to speak.

Looks like you're making good progress.

Question, though, in that pack can you not use certus quartz as a pick to mine iron? It would seem to me that would have been better than using the promethium for a pick.

You can make a TC pick with certus quartz, but then you need more quartz to repair it, and I only had a few pieces. I figured it was better to use the prometheum, since prometheum doesn't have much of any other use aside from selling to the black market. Seems worthwhile to get the prometheum for this pick. Next episode I plan to go mining for ouroclase in the swamp. My next goal will be to get enough ouroclase to make a pick and a full set of armor, and get the smeltery set up. I'll probably fast-forward through most of the mining, since I'm sure that will get old fairly quickly, and focus on the smeltery and starting to build my base.

That is high praise indeed! Thank you so much. :) If I can stop coughing for long enough, I'll try to start work on the next video today (though I won't be in the office again until next Tuesday - but maybe I can get several videos done and uploaded and queued then, since I'm too sick to do much else with my weekend).

Thanks. :) I'm finally getting better.

I'm starting to plan out how I'm going to do things in the longer term, but I'm not sure about weapons. Most of the time I've played Minecraft has been on peaceful, and I've never been much interested in combat so I'm pretty ignorant about the best weapons. It's easy to find recommendations online for the ultimate TC weapons, but what about starter weapons? What's the best materials that are easily obtainable near the start of a game? And I'll eventually want one melee and one ranged weapon. I've decided to go with TC for everything, so I can do something different than others (such as ShadeOfDead who uses Thaumcraft shock focus and Botania terrasteel sword for everything). Can anyone give me some pointers for some good options?

The sword is pretty simple. Longsword or Rapier, thaumium handle for a modifier and durability, paper crossguard for another modifier, and your best metal for the blade. Add lots of quartz for damage and, later, livingmoss for self repair. Also, throw on some Lapis for looting. You currently have iron, upgrade to oureclase when you get it, steel is also easy but I think oureclase does more damage.

For ranged weapons, I prefer crossbows since they fire instantly and then reload, where a bow is loaded and then fired. Blue slime is one of the best crossbow limbs, and is available as soon as you run into a blue slime. For mods, livingmoss as always and then redstone till you get to the cap of 0.25 second draw speed. For bolts, I use blue slime rods tipped with the best metal I can get. My current ones are manyullyn tipped with slime fletchings, giving a stack size of 154 and enough damage to destroy a taint spawner in a few shots.  As you level them up and get modifier slots, livingmoss works to regenerate ammo and then quartz for more damage.

Thanks for the tips! Those sound like good options, once I find a few slimes. I can head to Delta base to mine for quartz for modifiers (I was planning on heading in that direction soon-ish anyway) and I think livingmoss should be easy to make since there's a recipe for mossy stone.

Any idea where in Blightfall I can get manyullyn? I know that's a ways away, but it's good to plan in advance. I'm definitely doing a lot of advance planning with this LP.

I've just recorded the next 2 episodes, but I still have to finish editing them, compose some more music, and then get to the office to upload them. Earliest chance will be Tuesday. But I'm pleased with how this session went. :)

The recipe for livingmoss has been changed in this pack. No mossy cobble involved. You do, however, need an infusion altar, a blood altar, and a mana pool, so its pretty late game.

Ardite and Cobalt are found under the volano, IIRC beneath the caldera.

Ugh... Why would they make livingmoss late game? And requiring all three magic mods as well? That's a huge bummer. It'll be a very long time before I'll be at that stage. I may not ever even bother with it. By that point I'll have enough materials that I can just repair my broken weapons...
