Ok so I'm running a huge fort of about 500 adults( trying to get 1000!)
my duchess is my only stressed dwarf!! And apparently. She wont talk to the elven diplomat because of her stress. I need my tree quota!!

If I make hempseed oil, will she drink it?

How do I stop getting hemp flour!! (Somehow have 100's)
I am making "a lot" of dimple dye and almost every clothing item!!

She also likes cotton cloth. I made her loom and clothiers shop out of her favorite wood, guess who's making her own clothes till her dream of creating a masterwork is realized? ! Oh and pressing that oil she likes.

The obvious answer to how to avoid making hemp flour is to stop milling hemp
The HOW answer is probably to link your mill to stockpiles that provide you with bags and with the plants/seeds (I'm not sure if only seeds are millable, as I don't bother with milling myself) you DO want to mill, i.e. include Dimple Cup and whatever else you want, but exclude hemp.
I'd probably remove the duchess from refuse removal as well, to reduce the risk of her seeing sentient parts (and move those parts from the regular pile to avoid others from getting stressed too, if the parts are there, and send said parts to somewhere "safe" [down a hole, into magma,... I use a hole, since I like the concept of elf/human/goblin bone armor]).

To make hemp oil, you need to mill the hemp seeds to paste, then press the paste in a screw press. You have to provide a "liquid container" (an empty jug made from any material other than unglazed earthenware) for the pressing, which receives the oil.

PS - upon re-reading, i suspect you're already making proper oil, your dwarfs just insist on milling hemp plants instead of dimple cups. For that, see above - link stockpiles or at least store hemp plants well away from the mill.

Plant oils are a "liquid food", not a drink. They must be cooked into prepared meals at the kitchen, that's the only way to get a dwarf to consume them. You can also make oil soap from oils, but that doesn't count for preferred material thoughts, because soap is not eaten.

There's a bug with cooking.  Dwarves tend to not use liquid ingredients, like sweet pod syrup, without workarounds.  I'd suspect this would extend to hemp oil.  There's also the problem that hemp oil is time consuming to make in bulk.

You'd probably be better off finding some other way to lower her stress level.

Thanks for the replies, I knew this wouldn't be easy!
One problem remains. Once I get the seeds,mill to paste,press to oil, cook to roast .....there is no way to isolate those prepared.hempseed oil roasts, my food stockpiles are *large*, so she'll have to scrounge around for them like a commoner. Oh wait, she's used to it, she was a peasant! !!

1 more, her main bad thoughts are...she couldn't find somone in charge to yell at! Apparently she can't yell at herself? (I do it a lot playing df ) mayor has no jobs/labors.

No punishment of criminals...
I've never messed with a hammerer, and a loyalty cascade at this point would be hilariously gruesome!!!

Anyhow, do I have to manually convict someone, say 1 of my 3 vamps?
Or if I make a hammerer, will he go all chuck Norris on everyone once I give him that artifact platinum hammer?!?!

You can convict people at the Z-Justice screen.  You can convict the actual criminal or just someone you don't like.  Convicting something like a dog or someone already dead tends to make everyone very angry.

Most punishments are in the form of beatings and imprisonment in a cage or restraint.  You can see the type of punishment at the Z-Justice screen.  Hammerings are usually given for very serious crimes like murder and are typically fatal if the suspect is unarmored.  If you don't have a hammerer a hammering will be reduced to a beating (which can still be fatal).

You can get your mayor to find someone to yell at by manually replacing her (I do that to get someone that's probably not going to issue mandates).

Figures out of almost 500 dwarfs, the ONE that can screw this fort does!!
I saw 1 in yellow and thought...well its 1 dwarf, I don't care, ill check WHO if they go red...even then its just 1 right? Ill b ok!
Now paving my forested embark is on hold, AND if she flips out verybad things will happen! Was planing on a war with the hippies anyway.
ill lock her in with food and drink and see how it goes.

getting your dwarves to add liquid ingredient to foods  can e extremely annoying and I don't know a way to do it at all without micromanagement. Probably you should do some manual forbidding/stockpile linking to make them roast something like 3x40draltha meat + 1 jug of hemp oil for her, and then stockpile that in her private dining room and hope for the best.

Ok, here's an update, and some questions at the end.
I built a quern in her room and a screwpress, the proper stockpiles. I Finally got some hempseed oil!!! Yay success!!!! Z stocksmenu zoom to....finished goods stockpile!!?? ANDthe jugs are in bins! That stockpile doesn't even accept food! Friggin great.
Made a loom, clothiershop out of her favorite wood, she doesn't care. Cotton thread,cloth only stockpiles.empty. ALL other stockpiles don't accept any cotton thread/cloth. Yet someones making it!!
I took a risk, made a captain of the guard. 60 dwarfs got beat! Even the CMD got his hand smashed.( I missed that line"have restraints ready BEFORE appointing a Captian of the giard"
She's still mad, 1 escaped justice 1 of my 3 vamps.

Ok now the questions

How do I get the jugs with hempseed oil out of the pile they're in? I have disabled "other large. tools" and enabled that beside her kithen. No go.

Kinda same about cotton thread/cloth. No pile in the fort accepts it, but hers. Still empty.

If I convict "vamp3" of 3 or 4 murders( no witnesses) without a hammerer, will he get beat OR jail? I have to open his door, he's hungry, will he go feed before being taken to jail?
Can he escape if jailed/ chained?

What stress level is tantrum time?
Therapist is showing 208.7 thousand. Shes "on friendly terms" with over half the fort!! (Adult pop. Now 506!!) So things could get nasty quick with 96 kids 16 babes.

I believe they tantrum when they hit the "haggard" level.  View the unit to see if it is haggard or stressed.

It takes a long time to build up stress and a long time to remove it, so it'll be a while.  Make sure she has high quality rooms and all necessary furniture.  Keep her away from dead bodies.  You might want to recruit her into a squad and have her train to build up her discipline, but keep her out of combat.  Meet all mandates on time.  Keep her out of the sun and make sure she's fully clothed and not wearing decaying clothes.

I'd assume the cotton thread/cloth is still in the corresponding workshop, either because no one hauls it into the correct stockpile, or because that stockpile is set to "accept from links only", with no link to the appropriate workshop. Of course, if the stockpile is in a locked room, haulers can't path to it.

Another quick update.

After *very* close examination of my 6*6 map (oh the pain) I can grow cotton!
New 5*5 plots ( are being biult, and since I've got about 10k pigtail/ hemp cloth those feilds will lie fallow, and ill just produce cotton.

The hempseed oil problem isn't solved, will try removing the *large* finished goods stockpile the bins holding the jugs are in, I can't think of another way to get em moved.

I convicted vamp3 of 2 old murders, stationed the axe squad near his room, unlocked his door and before he made it 20 steps, the hammerer hauled him to jail
50 hammerings(not done cuz of a cell) 250 jail days. Cell door locked. Problem solved.

Duchess is better, but bad thoughts are only no one to yell at/cry on.

All animals slaughtered years ago, planning on rotating leather/yarn with mountainhome. OOPS.
Time to redo workflow settings, military will do without cloaks/hoods for a bit.
