No. Grazing requirements were reduced in the v0.40 branch, and elephants are now capable of eating fast enough to survive.

Every large grazer i tested so far seemed capable of esting enough to survive and breed what was impossible a few versions ago. Also if u use lauynewbpack you can adjust grazing coefficients easily!

Elk birds are still problematic; they prefer to starve atop a nest box rather than move to a tile with grass to graze.

I don't think sane, non-fort units have ever required food.
