wonderful fort video
« on: January 17, 2008, 07:17:00 pm »

ok that title doesn't quite cover it

in this video they excavate the entire ant colony for a huge colony of grasscutter ants

they actually pour cement down into the colony and build an exact model of it and then dig it out

it is SO very much like dwarf fortress that I had to post it, and the actual mold is flat out beautiful ... anyway ~

After reading the comments to this movie on youtube, I learned that there's a large amount of insect rights activists. All idiots, but still.

Obligatory:

FOR THE OVERMIND

...
Also, maybe we can apply this biological construction methodology for our fortresses?

That was really interesting video. They really are incredibly industrious creatures. And the ventilation shafts? Brilliant!

And they farm fungus?! They are pretty much insectoid dwarves!

They don't get drunk daily, they aren't real dwarves.

That was pretty... pretty. Those ants are really workers.

But that video gave me wondrous idea! What about digging a large hole, and building fortress over it, only using horisontal, slightly upwards going tunnels to support the structure? Like in seen on the video, 6:02

flood a fortress with magma... then pour water... then dig out everything else that isn't newly created obsidian...  yeah, we can do that too.. I don't suppose there're dwarf activists?  ;)

With all those open vents leading in, they're just begging to get a megabeast rampaging through the main halls.  Well, tiny, ant-scale megabeasts, at any rate.
I was pretty impressed by how the heat generated by the decomposing compost drove the air flow.  So much I didn't know.

Holy crap, that is incredible.  The insect-Copperblazes!

When you meet someone with an opinion you don't agree with, you really need to tell them that they're an idiot.  Do you think they're smart enough to figure it out on their own?

Lucky for me to see your post.  I thought it was sort of a shame to destroy such an incredible structure, but I guess that's an indicator of inferior intelligence.
