"Soft rock" uses? Reborn
« on: August 20, 2015, 05:37:30 am »

Been a while since i played, but i know on original DF, rocks such as microcline could be used for making mason stuff & buildings.

Currently have tonnes of microcline, kaolinite, marcasite and cannot work out what they're used for on MW:Reborn.

Can anyone enlighten me? did a few searches but couldnt see anything.

I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.

Be sure it's unrestricted under the Z key and Stone category.

they were restricted for me for no reason whatsoever.

Bit weird but makes sense, thanks.

Any inorganic automatically gets restricted if they are used in any custom reaction. So if I make "make microcline blocks" that uses microcline boulders, it's suddenly not non-economic anymore. Quirk of the game, nothing I can affect.

Also, kaolinite is actually an economic stone in vanilla too, it's the raw form of porcelain (which is worth the same as iron or silver). So you know, it's probably a bad idea to make rock crafts or block walls with it if you have less valuable rocks available.

thanks. not played in a while and never noticed this before, good to know.

i thought because the error message requested "non-economic hard rock" that these rocks must be soft hahaha  :D

for kaolinite, i'll probably make some slightly more expensive furniture :P

It's non-economic hard rock and economic hard rock. The "soft" rock you are speaking about is clay, soils, sands, etc.

Specifically, any rock that is not present in layers at your site, with custom reactions attached, will be restricted by default.  Layer rock that is present at your site will be unrestricted (custom reaction or no).

Since every rock can be used in the "grind boulders to sand" reaction in Masterwork, everything is counted as economic thus only layer rocks available at your site will be enabled by default.
