Doesn't really matter beyond fluff. Although I think family makes sense with the caste based race.

Given that would could be looking at several races at once, I don't think family-based really works with the overall command structure (Though it's a nice bit of fluff for the one though.)

Aren't we a caste based race? Fairly sure we're just one race with highly specialized castes.

Given that this is only the initial wave of the task force, I doubt it. Now, that's not to say that this race we currently have can't be a caste-based one, just that it's not the only one at our disposal.

Fluffwise, it seems pretty independent so far. Unless it's part of a conglomerate where all parties are more or less completely independent, I can't see that making sense. And even if they were part of a conglomerate, I can't see sense in sharing a client race.

Honestly, I don't think we're taking it as a private client race given the group is a state venture. And I'm presuming that the 'federation' is a little more centralised than that, so member species can't go out claiming client species for their own nations.

Also presuming that we're also not the only stellar nation our there, and we do know of others.

As for FTL comms. Based on how we lack FTL travel, that's unlikely. And even if we did have it, we could just not transmit the warcrimes.
