War of the Planets : Invader thread : Review Q3 2025
« on: August 18, 2015, 04:32:33 pm »

We have come from among the stars, and have nearly reached our designation, a seemingly uninteresting rock orbiting an equally uninteresting planet. However, this planet has signs of life, which we must subjugate. Though our technology is advanced, the dangerous oxygen-rich atmosphere makes the operation of most of it impossible. We will need to redesign our weaponry thouroughly. In addition, we number few, the price of interstellar travel being high even with our boundless resources.

The OOC thread for this game is here, and you should probably read it. However, the basic rules are that each year you get to design a weapon (or piece of equipment), revise that design (or revise a different existing one), invent something and then everything goes into production, and you can try to manipulate the battles.

Customization options :

The dominant nature of our weaponry :
        A) Biological (Breeding monsters)
        B) Mechanical (Robot invader)
        C) Psyonical (Mind control. Or blowing up people's heads)
        D) Other : Please specify

We act :

      A) Subversive : Taking over the enemy from within.
      B) Aggressive : Destroying him before he can react
      C) Inquisitive : Understanding first, then manipulate his weak points.

When we attack, we do so :

A)In massive waves, overwhelming the enemy
      B) in tightly organized groups, strong in tactics and decent in numbers
      C) by sending a few of us, whom they can't possibly destroy

Invader here, lets take over this rocks!

My choices

Biological (Breeding monsters)
Subversive : Taking over the enemy from within.
by sending a few of us, whom they can't possibly destroy

Also -1 to destroying the planetary ecosystem, the diversity and stable ecosystem is valuable, not the reason we came in the first place but a nice bonus.

D: Orbital Bombardment.
B: Aggressive.
B: Tightly organized squads.

Seriously, we should just harvest the asteroid belt for Tungsten and drop a twenty or so Rods from God on them. It'll send the entire planet into seismic upheaval and initiate apocalyptic conditions for anyone on the surface. Most military gear will be destroyed. Any and all costal cities and bases will be destroyed. Navies will be fubar, and the fallout and dust will prevent mass food production. Meaning the populations will starve and revolt. We can then subjugate the surviving populations as we see fit.

Invader here, lets take over this rocks!

Biological (Breeding monsters)
Subversive : Taking over the enemy from within.

We can't breath their air. What does it matter if they have a stable ecosystem? We need to purge it and replace it with our own. Maybe keeping a few choice samples for future use.

Mechanical, Inquisitive, Organised groups.

And Kevak, we're here to subjugate life. I'm pretty sure that means no collateral damage on that scale.

Orbital bombardment is practical. Too practical. Feels like it'll be boring that way.

Acceptable civilian casualty rates are 90%. Estimated civilian casualty rates in first five years post bombardment are about 60% in most scenarios. That leaves a good billion of heavily disorganized survivors to enslave and breed.

Hell, we can step in and offer aid to the survivors. They'll take it as a godsend when the governments have failed them.

I'm assuming that we're here on what is essentially a space imperialism project - we're not after leibensraum to raise our children on, we're after natural resources and boasting opportunities back home.  The oxygen content of the planet means we can't reliably settle on it without destroying it, but they have plentiful planetary core minerals and heavy rares they lack the technology to extract.

These are primitive, backwater savages.  We must civilise the hell out of them, through fire and the sword, and make them labour to extract those tasty resources.

For obvious reasons, your race will have some strangely dogmatic beliefs on certain issues. Doesn't mean you can't use orbital bombardement, but don't except to get a starting weapon that wi s you the war.

Mind you, that just means we need environment suits or powered armour to kick these apes up the rear.

...Actually, do we have any idea what aliens we are at all?

Hence why bombardment is the best goal. Kill the majority. Wait a few years for everything to go to shit surfaceside, bombarding any organized military as needed and producing/stockpiling food they can consume and harvesting Water-Ice asteroids, and then stepping in as saviors with food and water to get the civvies cooperating with us.

Also. Fuck the dogmatic beliefs. We don't need to land jack shit until we get some Tungsten Rods built up.
