To be fair, Arstotzka's initial SMG was shit too :P
We got two 6's and one 4 when we designed it. It wasn't until two years later when the first decent SMG was made IRL. If we used our Revision phase to make the SMG cheaper, we would've beaten Germany by two years in that regard. You're just lucky we chose better vehicle/artillery suspension instead.

All fanfics are heresy, each and every one, especially the shipping ones. Those are by far the worst.

News Report: Mysterious disappearances in Central USA baffle investigators. Official investigators say that they so far have no lead towards the nature of these disappearances. The mass disappearances are characterized by the heavy use of fire to destroy any traces. Houses and surrounding area have often been completely burned to the ground. A few suspects were arrested last week, but it turns out they were only responsible for a few copycat attacks.

Major terrorist attack in Brazil : Terrorist forces have attacked and destroyed a military base in Brazil. No group has claimed the attacks yet, and the investigation is still ongoing. Brazil has claimed that it will exterminate the group responsible, and seek outside assistance if needed.

Battle Report:2024

Spoiler: Battle (click to show/hide)

The first major battle of the invasion occurs as the Kal Terek expeditionary group launches a full blown assault on the Earth Protection Agencies primary airforce base in mainland China. A large fleet of drop ships descends from space through the upper atmosphere, accompanied by their newest invention, a small, hyper sonic drone. However, the EPA airfield has not been left undefended. EPA's designers have developed a larger and more powerful version of their ground to air rocket, and equipped it with a HEAT warhead designed to hopefully destroy the dropships despite their armor.

Chinese satellites in low Earth orbit picked up the drop fleet the moment they hit the Earth's atmosphere. Shortly thereafter, radar stations in eastern China were able to conclude this was indeed an invasion fleet, and not a decoy group or a series of closely packed meteors, as had occurred several times in the past. As the drop ships crossed the point of no-return, and brilliant flames of reentry lighted their ship's up in the night sky, consternation spread through EPA command. By the time the President had been informed of the impending attack on his nation, the first missiles had already reached the invasion fleet.

The first interceptions occurred in the deep blue sky at 25 km altitude. The HQ-9's standard missile proved to be about as effective as the weaponry that had been deployed against the alien forces last year. Exploding close to the drop pods, the shrapnel harmlessly embeds itself in the craft's thick heat shielding. Then, one of the larger pods is struck directly by one of the missiles. A small explosion blooms from it's side. For a moment, the pod appears unharmed, before a powerful detonation rips the entire craft apart. Faced now with a weapon that can defeat their armor, the pods break formation and attempt evasive maneuvers, but are heavily hampered by the fact that things were not actually designed with any lateral mobility in mind.

Losses remain limited though, as it appears only a limited amount of units were equipped with these new HX-1 missiles. With combat now displacing itself to lower atmosphere, a formation of J-31 fighters attempts to intercept. Before the lead fighter can come in range however, what appeared to be one of the smaller pods breaks out of it's ballistic trajectory and intercepts the fighter group. A single laser blast blows up the lead fighter. In response, the other planes launch their missiles at these newer target, but it simply accelerates away. Before another attack can be attempted, the pods are already on the ground.

Ground forces are rapidly overwhelmed, and the EPA airforce base destroyed, with considerable loss of life and equipment. A considerable amount of J-31 spare parts and support equipment go up in flames as the main hangar collapses, and the local air defense battery is destroyed. Rather than fortifying their position however, the invaders pile back onto their ships, destroying those few ships considered to damaged to retrieve, and escape back to space.

An incident considered much less important occurs in Indonesia, where an EPA squadron detects a small alien drop pod fleet making preparation for take-off, and through massed attack succeed in taking down one of their drop ships. Humans bodies are found among the debris.

Opportunity : Higher ups on both sides demand a report on what each side describe as the catastrophe in China. Your final conclusion will be taken into consideration.

I have a feeling that one year turns are bit too long.

Yeah, monthly or quarterly turns would be a better timescale.

News Report: Major wildfire in the Amazonian.

A large wildfire currently raging in the Amazonian is destroying massive amounts of forested area, and has forced the evacuation of several mines in the area. It is feared that there will be a significant loss of biodiversity, as well as large loss of human life. Military forces have been deployed to the area in an effort to control the blaze. Meanwhile, a thick gaze has overtaken important cities on the coast.

In other news, the drug war in Mexico continues to escalate, with now entire areas out of government control.

Battle Report:2025 Q1

Spoiler: Battle (click to show/hide)

Aliens land in force in North and South America, deploying no new weaponry. Similarly, the EPA holds to it's own territory, sending merely a single submarine to aid South America, though also deploying new high powered rounds to allow common soldiers to harm the alien invaders.

The invasion of South America is swift. After a single drop pod is shot down by the EPA submarine, invasion forces decide to land exclusively inland, where they quickly assert control of a wide territory. While the EPA has provided adjusted ammunition, the high power rounds make weaponry more difficult to handle, and inflict significant strain on the equipment, leading to frequent failures. At the same time, it appears alien forces have improved their own laser weaponry.

Alien forces are held at bay outside the hard to traverse Amazonian by the thread of artillery and aerial bombardement. Nevertheless they have conquered about 1 third of the continent, including several mines. South America is openly calling for aid, and is wavering.

The invasion in North America is simpler. Leaving the better armed USA to the side, invasion forces focus on Mexico, though they do not manage to conquer as large an area as in South America.

Opportunity : No entries : :'(

Wait, we were supposed to put the Opportunity entries here? Oops, I put mine in the Human Thread.
As for our exciting opportunity, mention that our brand-new missiles worked perfectly, that the People's Republic of China and the EPA have the honour of bringing down the first alien dropship, and that the only reason the attack was not completely defeated was due to a lack of availability of said missiles. Perhaps if more production capacity was available to the EPA, things would have turned out very different(ly?)...
