As a widely respected company of adventurers, the four of you have been called upon by the crown to retaliate. But first, you will need an army, which the Crown is, hopefully, about to provide.I've recently taken another look at the
Unearthed Arcana: When Armies Clash, and wanted to try it out. I figured that I should come here and see if anyone else was interested. As a note, I don't intend for this game to be pure combat, so expect roleplay for recruitment and management, and such.
I also figured that it would give me something of a playtest for a setting I've been working on. So, if it's shit, tell me!
Setting overview:
The Kingdom of Castile is a high fantasy setting, based off of real-world late-15th-century Spain, and this specific game focuses on the end of the Reconquista, or when Spain conquered Granada, the last Muslim nation in the Iberian Peninsula.
Races:
The nations of the Iberian Peninsula; Castile, Aragon and Portugal are Halfling lands.
England is a Dwarven kingdom, and the rest of the British Isles are inhabited by dwarves.
France is a High Elven kingdom.
Italy is the land of Gnomes, and home to the kingdom of Gnaples and with the Papal States.
The Ottoman Empire is an empire of Humans. Most Islamic countries, for that matter, are Human.
When the Ottoman Empire conquered the Byzantine Empire, many Grecian citizens fled to Western Europe. The Grecian people are Minotaurs, as described in Waterborne Adventures Unearthed Arcana.
The Holy Gnoman Empire is an empire of Orcs and half Orcs, despite the name.
The people of the western, central and southern areas of Africa are Wood Elves.
The Jewish people are Dragonborn, and can be found scattered throughout the Middle East and Europe.
The Nordic countries are Goliath lands, as described in the Elemental Evil Supplement.
Technology:
Gunpowder weaponry is crude, at best. However, corning of gunpowder is a rapidly spreading process, so guns are becoming safer and more commonplace. Handheld weaponry is still ruled by sword, shield and bow, since gunpowder is inaccurate at range. However, the blast from a hand-cannon or arquebus is deadly, if it hits. Artillery, though, is dominated by the cannon. Sieges will never be the same again. As a note, the use of crossbows, bows and slings against Christians is banned (this is a legit, historical thing).
Important National Politics:
Two years ago, Castile concluded a war over the succession of the Castilian throne, where the supporters if late king’s half-sister, Isabella, defeated the supporters of the late king’s daughter, Joanna la Beltraneja.
A few months prior to the end of the war, Isabella’s husband became king of Aragon, essentially joining the two nations.
The monarchy has established an Inquisition to root out crypto-Judaism. Jews and Moors are still tolerated, but intolerance against them is rising.
The monarchy is also taking power away from the nobility and the bourgeoisie and hoarding it for themselves, using a peacekeeping force they established, called Santa Hermandad, or 'Holy Brotherhood'.
We will be starting at level 5, and all sub-classes and races from Unearthed Arcanas and other supplementary material are okay, as are homebrew, if you run it by me first.
We will be using the 'Gritty Realism' Rest Variant, meaning that Short Rests take 8 hours and Long Rests take 7 days.
You begin with 500 GP in addition to your starting gear based on your class and background.
Those proficient in all martial weapons are also proficient in gunpowder weapons.
I'm not sure how many players I want to take for this game, so... ya. Make sheets! Or don't.

As an action, a character can light this bomb and throw it at a point up to 60 feet away. Each creature within 10 feet of that point takes 3d6 damage, and half as much on as a successful 14 DC Dexterity save.
