Java and Flash are installed but refuse to work. The joys of Linux. Well, now I know to look using a working browser instead.

Knew it was something like that. *mutter*

Awesome, to protect from chasm attacks just build drawbridges that raise toward your central bridge key them to the same lever raise them like walls to seal your bridge from the chasm. Set up steam to the magma and you can build basically unmolested.

Hi!

From bitter experience, I can tell you: Stone fall traps don't cut it for the chasm (they are fine for the river, though). I have had several wave of ratmen raids, even though I don't chasm stuff, and even several weapontraps can be overwhelmed by them, as they come in packs of 15 or so and do not flee once the first one gets killed.

If you go for traps, weapon traps with discs (I think normal weapons clog very easily), preferably in three layers. And station some soldiers, if you have them, nearby, just in case.

It's really one of the nasty lessons I learned.

Deathworks: That really depends. It seems that chasm activity greatly depends on the map. And not just on the threat matrix either. Some maps will get lots of activity, others will get almost none (I have a fort on a terrifying map that has gotten only about three attacks of gremlins over a period of five years.)

Hi!

Okay. But at least I can say, that if you get an active chasm, stone traps actually help kill your dwarves rather than the invaders. So, if you notice suspicious chasm activity, consider preparing some discs.
