Collapse: A Journey for the Cure [4/4]
« on: August 13, 2015, 01:09:31 am »

(This is a post-apocalyptic RPG, just incase anyone was wondering)

As oil supplies dwindled, unrest grew. Hunger for war grew as well. War meant plunder and plunder meant more oil and food both of which all nations didn't have enough of.

Due to well placed investments your families found themselves swimming in money. Intelligently, seeing the wars to come and the future so bleak, your famines invested in a large bunker hidden away in a hill far enough away and secluded enough to hide but close enough to easily escape to.

Three years after the bunker's completion war was declared on the nation. A power house rolled in and met heavy resistance. Two of the most powerful nations now on their knees battering each other for what few resources they could still fight over.

Many of the worlds laws and human rights have been thrown away at this point. Chemical and biological warfare had become common again. Everyone would soon regret abandoning the rule against this.

After a series of biological attacks your families decided to escape to the bunker and seal themselves in.

Now a year and a half later the doors to this bunker are being opened again, what was once a safe haven from the outside world now required it's help. A new human engineered plague had found it's way into the bunker slowly killing off members of the families. Several were killed immediately after it's outbreak on the inside and many found ill.

Some like you however are immune to the plague.
To keep this safe haven from collapsing you are all being tasked with going out and finding a cure and bringing back healthy bodies to replace those who died and to spread out the gene pool. When your journey is over the bunker will be sealed once more and not opened till the world outside has forgotten itself and the reconstruction of a new world may begin.

You do not know what to expect in the wastes but your families have been well prepared for a multitude of events.

Environment-
Rads: a rating of how much radiation you are currently taking in. 0-5 is safe, 5-25 is relatively safe but harmful over time, 25-50 is harmful but not deadly over a short period of time, 50-75 is harmful and deadly if exposed too long, 75-100 is deadly and you should seek medical treatment as soon as possible if exposed for any length of time of 75 or higher. (These are not real world Rads, just an easy way to count radiation in this game.)

AT (air toxicity): A gauge of how toxic the air is currently. This will give two different readings, one is general toxicity and the other is any specific things in the air that are polluting it. Toxicity readings: none means there are no toxins or other particles in the air, mild means there are some but can still (normally) be breathed unfiltered, moderate means you should start using an air filter of some sort but can survive without one, high means that the air is dangerous to breath for any length of time and can be deadly, and very high is deadly if breathed in at all (an air filter must be worn to survive in very high toxicity environments). Specific readings, these will be anything in the air that could harm you and what exactly is in the air: acidity means there are acidic chemicals in the air if the toxicity is moderate or higher your lungs may be permanently damaged by breathing this in, radiation means there are radioactive particles and elements in the air anything high and above will cause permanent damage, pollution means things like CO2 or other industrial pollutants that will make the air harder to breath anything high and higher will cause permanent damage, particulates/dusts/etc solids floating in the air that make it hard to breath or damage your lungs anything past mild requirs an air filter to breath normal and deadly past moderate, biological meaning anything from pathogens to natural toxins in the air depends on what specific biohazard is in the air to when filtration is required, chemical means man made toxins are in the air and filtration requirments very from toxin to toxin.  (Others will be added when I remember)

Douglas H., Pentheothya W., Rob W., and Monica J.
These are the names of the four brave and healthy family members chosen to take the dangerous journey through the unknown to find a cure and new blood lines to save the bunker. These are the four who may never return. These are the four who will brave through the collapse for their family.

Before you all leave your last night is spent in celebration, a great feast is had and memories shared, for they may never see you again.
The next morning you are given a quick medical examination and several shots to boost immunity and the such.

You collect your equipment:
Douglas H.-

Pentheothya W.-

Rob W.-

Monica J.

Now fully equipped to handle the outside world you are sent off to find a cure. Each of your has been given a air filtration mask in your packs.

A few of the other healthy members escort you to the exit of the bunker and say last good byes. As the great sealed door opens a heavy air fills the room. You take your first steps into the world in almost two years. Most of trees that once filled this hillside are now gone leaving behind their ashen and burnt remains though some plants grow on this fire stricken hill side.

Your cousins wave good bye as the door seals shut and so your journey begins.

What do you do? (You can talk amongst yourselves for your first action(s).)

My guess would be to head to the nearest town. Anyone have any idea where one is?

((OOC: Should we RP in present tense or past tense? Do we start with any food and water or do we have to collect it from the outside? I'll hopefully post something soon.))

I think we got some food and water with our packs, it'd be odd if we didn't.

"Well we should head into town, try and get a few leads an maybe some transport."

((Sorry forgot to add. I'll just list everything that all of you have been given: air filtration mask with 1 4hour cartridge, 3 days of canned food, two half gallon canteens filled with water, Rad counters, and air toxicity meter.))

After looking around you find that you are half way up the hill. You can't see west, north seems rather empty but gets hilly a few miles out, east you can see what looks like buildings a few miles away, and south looks like a flat cratered wasteland filled with destroyed and abandoned vehicles.

There is a yellow haze over the ground below the hill.
