Barons Battle- House Ladron - Taking Players for both sides.
« on: August 12, 2015, 03:29:15 pm »

With fertile lands to the east of the river, House Landron lived peacfully with their neighbor until some great squabble arose, they couldn't understand how the House Hao Kin Yuu Do'Dis did what they reportedly did.

In the first phase both sides will be editing the terrain, which can be done on either side of the river, but nothing too cheese can be done, as outlined in the OOC thread. So each king may consult the advisers who can join their dynasty before making their announcement for what they want me to do to the map.

Ok... I think House Ladron can use some forests on the southern part of our shore.

As some more maps emerge it appears the lands to the south east had a forest, with light forest along the outskirts, quickly becoming a dense woodland. The woods hinder movement on horse, unless a path is cleared, and formations will be must more broken walking through the dense woodlands, the woods are filled with many strong oak and yew trees.

In the north, nearish to the river is group of mountains, in the middle of these great peaks is a pass, treacherous, and unpassable in winter, however given enough time, and an unopposed crossing, an army can in time make it across with only some causalities, but a small force garrisoned on either side would make life a living hell for any sized force trying to cross. Many valuable ores are in the mountains.

Note: the map is actually getting cluttered faster than I thought it would, so there may only be a few more additions, so pick your moves wisely.

Ok. I think now we'll have some mountains right next to our side of the bridge. They can be a useful deffensive position.

The maps show the western side of the bridge covered in forest, the woods thick around the main road leading between the two Castles, while able to be traversed the woods left any advancing armies open to ambush and mostly stuck in a marching formation unable to deploy effectively. The lighter forests skirted the river, not posing as much of an issue to the impediment of armies, as well as spreading onto some of the foothills surrounding the mountain range. The quality of lumber is appreciable, though not to the same extent as the forests of the east, the wildlife has grown to larger sizes, and as such are much more profitable to hunt, although rumors persist of something lurking deep within the forest.

The skyline east of the bridge was dominated by the presence of two massive mountains, many of the locals calling them the twins. Their nearness to the road allows them to make a very effective choke point, allowing a smaller army to effectively engage larger armies in pitched battles. A side note is that due to their positioning the area between them is perfectly shaded, except at noon, making it a prime spot for hunters to camp before entering the forest, at least that was before the war. While not as rich in minerals as the mountain range in the west, their stone quality is much higher. Some foothills dot the area around them.

Mapping turn three

Side note: I felt that adding foot hills around the mountains would make that a bit more dynamic than just mountains raising straight from the ground, they act as you would expect hills too.

Ok. I think the northern side of the river should have a swamp or some marshes, maybe even covering both shores.

Far to the North, a swamp lies, a local tribe lives there, trading with anyone who has coin or something they need, deep inside is rumored to be a forest of mushrooms, the same mushrooms that the local tribes use for trade, and to supplement their meals. The silt of the swamp is prized by farmers as it helps to fertilize their fields, the tribe however doesn't part with this freely and swears fealty to none, many armies have tried to march into the swamps but other than the logistical nightmare that stops most, those that enter are never heard of again. The swamp trade also provide spices and exotic plants, as well as meat and crab from the creatures inhabiting.

Around the seat of house Hao Kin Yuu Do'Dis and their town are hills, these hills house the shepherds of their land, a small part of the population but useful none the less. The hills were also used by the builders of the town to improve their defenses compared to their counter parts, with their cities wooden ramparts being built strategically to look down into surrounding valleys to maximize their tactical advantage. the great stone fortress of their land also makes an intimidating presence sitting atop the tallest hill of the land, over looking both the town and surrounding hills with ease.

I believe at this point the map is sufficiently filled, and adding too much more will end in just clutter. So we will set off into the next set up stage, you will place your two economic buildings on your side of the river, they have the option of being connected by road, if you dont state otherwise I will assume they are. They are able to be either away from our city exploiting resources, or in your city

Advisor to Lord Ladron reporting in.

my suggestions:

1. A fortress on the hilly road between the two mountains. This will secure the only easy way into our domain,  and could be the base for miningoperations in those mountains/hills

2. A logging camp in the southern woods.  Lumber is useful for construction,  be it for buildings, Sieve engines or weapons.

3. An extension to one of our farming villages. This will provide extra food, extra population and more tax.

I know we can only have two,  but I wanted to offer several options.

The first one can only be a mine for now, however you can build up fortifications later, especially since your materials can be produced on sight.

I believe a mine in the mountains and a logging camp in the southern woods should be what we go with. The building materials gained for those would allow us to build some infraestructure early, including more farms and some deffensive positions.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For years your family has exploited the resources in you ancestral lands. You have long had a set up logging camp in the woods to your south, it has kept the lands well supplied with yew and oak.

In one of the two great mountains protecting you lands is a great quarry, with higher quality stone than many other mines, however the ore here is not produced in great amounts but it does supplement your metal income.

With that ends the preparation phase, and begins the first part of your families feuds. Now begins the main part of the game, issue orders, taxes, etc... as any baron would do, but towards the goal of destroying your rival family.
