We are not a man, but a knight! A knight can slay what a man cannot! The woman said it was too great for a man to slay, and there's nothing greater than a knight!

Why are we even going on about manhood? We have lady bits. We've always had ladybits.

Our manly voice, and our hero's beard (+3 charisma), and our stereotypical desire to save a damsel in distress all gave it away.

The Peasant and the Crone were simply acknowledging our true gender identity, although, given the current poor state of medical science in the Kingdom, you indeed still have "female parts".

Now, let us climb out of this hole QUIETLY.

You feel a deep sense of discomfort and uncertainty about something.  Your helmet and chainmail stay on, even if your plate has been possibly eaten by a spider.

SLAY! the spider!

Not a whole lot of other options.

Now, let us climb out of this hole QUIETLY.

You struggle between valour and discretion, and your actions thus far indicate a split between the two.  You grab hold of the Bright Sword, although you are distressed to learn that its sunlight blade cuts through even the rock around it when you are not careful.  You take care to hold the sword in such a way that the blade does not touch any part of you, hilt pants-grippingly held between your teeth.  You have no doubt that whatever divine force first wielded this probably knew of a way to hold it without risking cutting its arms off, but you are a mere mortal.

It is probably for the best that the spider is blind, because you stand out like a sore thumb with this glowing sword in your mouth.  Nevertheless, you are able to carefully ascend the canyon walls, nearing the unpleasant slurping sounds where your horse used to be.  Just as you near the edge, the blade of the Bright Sword passes through one of the thick web strands and cuts it loose, sending vibrations through the whole mass.  The dark shape above turns instantly towards you, eight yellow eyes as big as your head squinting blindly in your direction.  You make a mad scramble for the top as the spider skitters towards you, grabbing hold of the lip with one hand.  The spider darts in for the kill, but you grab the Bright Sword with your free hand and slash towards the spider, cutting away one of its fangs and sending the creature squealing down into the chasm.  You do not wait to see if this has killed the beast, but make the rest of the ascent.

Your armour is still intact, although there is now a half-melted carcass where your horse used to be.  You can see where the spider had been drinking the liquid flesh.  You pick up your armour, put it on and take the severed Chasm Spider fang as a trophy.

You head along your way, moving towards the great forest in the distance.  After some time of travel, you come across what looks like an old slave, grey-haired but with mighty (if sagging) muscles, pushing a great wheel to which he is chained.  He moves a slow, ponderous circuit, and in the centre a grindstone turns grain into flour.  He is naked, save for a dusty red loincloth, and a trio of guardsmen in black armour with full-face helmets stand to prevent anyone from interfering.

Do you wish to interfere, or continue with your quest?

You cannot recall if it is illegal, merely whether or not you find it abhorrent.

Well. If the guy's a slave due to being a criminal, it's perfectly fine. Makes sense for him to work off his sentence. If the guy's a slave due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time though, not right or proper.

Approach the guards and ask why exactly the guy is a slave.

You approach the guards, one of whom crosses his spear (you suddenly notice they have spears) in front of you.

"Good sirs, what crime is this man being punished for?"

"Fuck off."

...Right, then.
