Backstory:
One of the numerous researchers working under the command of the Orcish chieftain known as Surpigig, Dr Obduld is intensely focused on combining the arcane with technology; wherever it be creating artificial magical energy sources or manufacturing spells in a scientific environment. Now wherever any of these tests have actually worked is questionable, with the most noteworthy of Obdulds’ experiences being one which resulted in the death of the tribes’ previous chieftain.

Unfortunately for Dr Obduld and his associates, Surpigig heavily restricted the technology which they could work with. This was most likely a preventative measure on Surpigigs’ part, to avoid meeting the same fate as the previous chieftain. Dismayed at the lack of ‘scientific thinking’ of their current leader, Dr Obduld and several other goblin researchers applied for an environment with far greater technology; Akras.

Description:
Garbed in a dishevelled set of clothes, and an oversized lab coat, Dr Obduld is an elderly goblin with an erratic white beard covering the dull green skin of his face. Due to the failure of a previous experiment, his left leg has had to be replaced with a primitive false leg.

Non-queen ants are basically extensions of the queen, so that probably wouldn't be worth much.

I'm given to understand that isn't the case and that the queen better represents the womb of an ant hill rather than the brain/womb. I don't have any resources off hand to support such claims and only remember that there were people, more educated on the topic than I, discussing it on a social media thing. I'll see what I can dig up though.

I, a self-appointed apocritamaniac, can tell you that the queen is no more sapient/sentient than the common worker. This is true for all species, orders, etc. The idea that they have a 'hive mind' controlled by the queen is given by the Aliens franchise. Granted, this differs in-game on the Gaian wasps because reasons.

I meant in terms of survival. With the queen and any "successors" gone, the colony is doomed.

So I'd think that only the queen and potential queens would "count."

Of course with magic it's not always a certainty.
