Assault Suit covers more and is more armor.

Khaiden is buying a fragmentation vest and an assault suit.

Adding it to character sheet and subtracting 15C

Spoiler: Ratodx Tamoren (click to show/hide)

I'll try to keep a record of Squad Funds in my sheet as well, just to keep more paper trails on it.

Ratodx would care significantly more about the ease of access of so many vital resources and comforts, but right now he's rather bothered by the ringing monkey screams that he hopes won't follow along into his dreams.
Amadou has his eye on Ratodx, he should be more careful lest he ends up promoted to 2IC.

Going to be away from normal internet access for a couple of days starting tomorrow. I will have internet access through my phone so I will still post but expect slow to respond and erratic posting.

Wait, Akras has ROGs?

Do they have any idea how stupid those are as weapons? Unless they have a way to prevent impact in case of an accident that's not only reckless, but the cost/gain for risk is extremely small.

You can't have an 'accidental' deorbiting of an ROG. That's a Lot of mass.

All it takes is one rod being dropped, a rod being dropped before or after it was supposed to be, a malfunction, a collision, etc.

Unless they have a plan for a rod dropping where they don't want it they might as well be paying impact roulette.

..That's not how deorbiting works.

Detatching a rod from the superstructure would not deorbit. It would continue to orbit around the planet without drifting much if at all. To deorbit something you need to put significant Delta-V into it.

I know that, I'm talking about the rods.

You can't stop the drop. If a rod falls when you didn't want it to, there's nothing you can do. It can't be shut off.

The chance of said rod hitting something that Akras cares is astronomically low.

And in a decade? 50 years? A century?

That structure will be up there.

Can you stop a drop? If not, then what's stopping it hitting something they DO care about?

Even taking it apart is dangerous.

I dunno, 10 high-powered Defensive laser turrets array, maybe?

the rifle variant have the heat output equivalent to the surface of the sun, the defensive structure version is likely going to be more powerful and accurate. 10 of them should be enough to melt a Tungsten rod coming in from high orbit, that's enough time.

OK, that might work.

But you can understand my concern until I learned that right?

What goes for magic also goes for technology:

"Don't bring up what you can't put down."

Or burn up before impact, but same thing.

Frankly even if one got launched on a deorbited course. It would take minimal effort for a drone to direct it somewhere Akras doesn't care about. Or just keep it up in orbit.
