Aaactually that isn't how it works.

Tal being the tactician is organizing defensive lines and coordinating which groups are primary targets for artillery.

Drones and missiles still need targets. It's generally safer to give drones targets then it is to turn it on and tell it to shoot anything in view.

Not to mention you're presumably shouting this over the radio over the Loud Artillery Barrages. So you're cluttering up the comms with shit that nobody needs to focus on.

And pretty much all the combat personal are focusing on something more important. Hell, even Jon is probably patching up injuries from weapons misfires.

Seriously though, why are none of the NPCs using Gauss rifles? Given how effective they've been, I'd imagine there'd be at least ten of them.

I think Gauss rifles may or may not be extremely, EXTREMELY high risk. After all, the slightest misuse and the magnets could rip the gun apart.

Gauss Rifles are a top tier weapon. It's usually too expensive for the others to afford, so instead of getting a Gauss Rifle, they'd just upgrade two MAG Assault Rifles instead with an underslung 40mm grenade launcher with the ability to shoot 25mm cannon rounds.

And note the little things, Foxhound is by far the richest and best-equipped Gate Team Akras has, your Vehicles are arguably leagues better than what was given to the rest of the squads.

I imagine that Akras may have been watching various squads for a long, long time. They might have pulled some strings to make sure we got experience before they hired us. Speaking of Akras, do you think they could manufacture stuff for me?
