does not penetrate as well as 5.7x28mm, and even when it does it hits harder but has less stopping power..

it has so much energy that it tends to go through without dissipating it into the body (wastage and overpenetration)
Rebolded stuff. Does the round not penetrate or overpenetrate?
Also, 5.56 is being used in-game, not 5.7
Also, the wound channel vid you put up? Proved the usefulness of .45 ACP. The only reason one of the two 5.7 rounds was more effective is because that particular round was designed to split into three pieces. Imagine the same technology applied to .45 ACP. In addition, clay does not simulate the bullet hitting something hard (ie bone) or transitioning between materials of different density.

In short? It's a bullet with higher stopping power (as shown in your vid that you put up) than 5.7 (let alone the 5.56 we're using).
It goes splat against armour, but swish through flesh. If it does hit bone it's another story, but that's one situation where it performs better.
Stopping power is related to the physical properties of the bullet, but the issue is complicated and not easily studied. Although higher caliber has traditionally been widely associated with higher stopping power, the physics involved are multifactorial, with caliber, muzzle velocity, bullet mass, bullet shape, and bullet material all contributing. Critics contend that the importance of "one-shot stop" statistics is overstated, pointing out that most gun encounters do not involve a "shoot once and see how the target reacts" situation.
The video you posted doesn't belie my position: yes, the .45 hits harder - it hits too hard for flesh, but not enough for armour.

Icly. You do realize we're not dealing with an irl modern .45 right? We're dealing with a postmodern, recoil dampened gun that fires Exploding Smart Bullets. Very veeeeeery different.
We also wouldn't be dealing with a modern 5.xx either, right? And yes, a .45 shell would be much more explosive than one with half its diameter. It also would still need a lot more propellent to penetrate the same armour. A much larger and heavy cartridge would mean less overall ammunition per magazine, bigger mechanisms, heavier guns.
In normal slugs, if all other things were equal, due to its mass it'd continue to overpenetrate. Use .45 for bear if you like (they're unarmoured and large enough to maybe allow a second cavitation bubble), but there's a very good reason why the military (i.e. the actual combat professionals) around the world are reducing the calibre.

Actually, my military contacts told me it was for capacity reasons. A .45 takes up much more space than a 5.56 does.
So far we've addressed both no armor and magically impenetrable armor. Armor isn't designed for the user to take a hit and not feel anything. It is designed to spread the force of the bullet over a large area. Light armor (light armor vests) won't stop a .45, or a 5.56 round, but it may mean that that bullet doesn't actually kill you, the wound cavity is a bit smaller.
Same reason helmets exist: For the possibility of an open-casket funeral. Very few modern helmets can stop a modern bullet.
Against heavy armor, and I mean magically impenetrable, a .45 round would still be felt more than a 5.56 round. Because kinetic impact is a thing. Staggering is a thing.

Staggering is a thing, not due to the projectile's mass but from the pain. True, if neither penetrates, the .45 will hit harder and has a better chance to break bones; still, the 5.xx has a better chance to penetrate than the .45.
You do understand that this isn't just about the game, I'm actually trying to educate you guys on a counterintuitive matter, but it's proving hard. It's like if I told you that blowing between two balloons will draw them together, but you're insisting that they must go apart and refuse to accept any explanation on the Bernoulli effect...

On a different note, I was doing the equipment tables on the wiki, and ended up adding an armour rating mechanic to the weapons. It wasn't intentional, but "which weapon can penetrate what" is something I had noticed to be missing and it came out like that.

Quote
Armour Rating
Note: weapons may cause blunt damage or spalling to armoured targets one level above their AP rating.

None
Hard leather or mail, soft-skinned vehicle, wood panel, mud wall

Light
Light plate armour, ballistic vest, reinforced soft-skinned vehicle, brick wall

Medium
Plate armour, heavy ballistic protection, light armoured vehicle, concrete wall

Heavy
Thick plate armour in large creatures, IFV, MBT thinner sides, stone wall, pillbox, blockhouse

Very Heavy
MBT front plate, reinforced concrete, redoubt, casemate.

Off-Scale For Infantry
battleships, aircraft carriers, Gibraltar, Iwo Jima, Russia
Kevak admonished me about spontaneously adding stuff, but this is something I feel could benefit the game, so I'm bringig it up here on the OOC.

Questions about magic and a few other things because well I don't wanna write something and turns out it doesn't work because of the mechanics.

-A magic type or enchantment even that makes you harder to notice when sneaking but at higher levels maybe you become harder to hit or see blurring. At its strongest you gain an effect where things just kinda don't notice you at all, because their brains or something don't recognize you.

- Teleportation and or storage of Items, I.E Father Anderson's Sleeves or Homura from Madoka no Magic. I remember that being an ability on the first doc.

- Some sort of charm that can tell you what kind of realm you're wither you're dreaming or not. Or what type of reality you are in, can light up and change colors.

-Finally precog and augmentation powers, the last is to augment others and maybe yourself with increased stats basically.

-Stealth suit will that be a thing or am I going to have to throw money at RnD?
- Some sort of mobility harness kinda like xcom or attack on titan.
-  Will we eventually be able to turn John into a mech like Xcom??

That's it for now.

Not a GM, so grain of salt and all that.

Because of how the magic system works there are several ways to do that and different ways to do that within a single school of applicable magic. Illusion>Perception is one method, with two methods within that being affecting yourself such that you are less perceived and affecting others to perceive you less.

Quote
- Teleportation and or storage of Items, I.E Father Anderson's Sleeves or Homura from Madoka no Magic. I remember that being an ability on the first doc.

Current tech developments are unable to do those things. Magic can, but it'll require specific specialist magic to pull it off at chargen. To pull it off later as well. Some research has been done into Mass Compression and Expansion though. See 1st below.

Quote
- Some sort of charm that can tell you what kind of realm you're wither you're dreaming or not. Or what type of reality you are in, can light up or change colors.

Should be possible through use of either one specialized magic school or a few related schools. I don't think we have the tech to do it without magic at the moment. See 1st below.

Precog, idk though I can see that being ruled as a nope potentially due to the headache involved. Augmentation, may I direct you at Magic Tal's current projects? Short answer, shouldn't be a problem if you select the right schools.

1st. It seems that R&D is currently run on a "you want it you research it" basis, at least for groundbreaking tech. So you could throw money at R&D (or Ratodx once he gets established as such), or you could diy.

2nd. Read 1st.

3rd. From how I understand it, 31st century full cyborg body is better than the mechs in NewCom. But Ratodx will have milspec Exo-Suits on his list of things to develop, so once we're at that stage, feel free to throw money or favors at him to move it up on his schedule.

Edit: Just realized that you're quite a bit more familiar with Castle than I first thought when I responded. Whoops  :-[

Then add it to the catalog for review like everyone else. That's what the General section is for.

Yes, several ways. Such as mentioned Illusion.

Yes, Rift Magic, certain eldritch Thresholds, and enchantments. There's a PC who'll show up at some point with skills for that.

Yes. You could probably ask Eros icly about that. She's the dream/astral specced npc Magi

Precog is technically possible. Wo do have a chronomancy specced npc magi after all. Keep in mind that some things disrupt scrying and there are many many timelines. Enhancement is the school you are thinking of for general augs.

Stealth suit possible techwise with effort or magicwise with fiddling. We have a PC who'll show up at some point with skills for it on the magic side.

Not sure why you'd wanna be a giant mech but it's technically possible?
