Dwarves won't clear away bodies
« on: August 08, 2015, 03:36:55 am »

I'm having problems with an Ettin corpse outside my front gate. It's horrifying all my woodworkers and fishermen to insensibility, but nobody will move it, dump it, or put it in the corpse stockpile where nobody can see it?

How are we supposed to cope with a fortress full of fainting daisies who run around gibbering constantly about death and the horror over one measly dead giant?

Did you set the order (o) for them to collect refuse (r) from outside (o) ?

I'd always dump the corpses into magma or an atomsmasher btw. That way you can make sure it doesn't cause bad thoughts anymore. Just as a suggestion.

That's not the issue. I explicitly told them in several different ways to remove it to a location, and they refuse to touch it, and every other dwarf leaving the fort has a fit of the vapours for a month

If they are trying but everyone is too scared to touch it once they got the job, use your soldiers. Squad inactive, training for this squad off in all barracks, refuse hauling on only for them. Seasoned soldiers should have less of a problem with it.

Vapours? I guess it is inside anyway then. Still, first thing I'd suggest to look over again are the orders, I had it that I accidently set them wrong and my dwarves stopped carrying the stuff in question, obviously...

Did you try forbidding and unforbidding it?
If all else fails, try putting a stockpile under it, link a minecart to that stockpile and have that minecart dump the corpse where you want it.

I can hardly believe that a whole fortress would be too scared to dump a single corpse.

Nothing to do with miasma in this case. Just means that Dorsid's dwarves are too delicate to move a body without panicking and fainting.

I solved the problem in an appropriate manner, by digging a shaft underneath it and collapsing it thirty-Z-levels into the caverns. The winged leech which bites through iron helmets is welcome to its bones.

This applies to literally every problem.
