Awesome cool steampunk wizards vs engineers (recruiting)
« on: August 08, 2015, 12:58:42 am »

Long ago Earlier this evening, in the town of Blarph, began what will someday be looked back on as the beginning of an epic war between wizard and engineer. Two masters of their respective arts fought a desperate battle for supremacy and dominance! But that's how it will be looked back on in the future. What really happened today was actually that two former college buddies, a wizard and an engineer, got into an entirely civil and polite dispute over afternoon tea and biscuits about which was better, wizarding or engineeringry. (The good biscuits, not the nasty ones that taste like butter.) And that polite dispute simply got a little out of hand.

Ok, very out of hand.

Before long, the wizard was magically shielding his hoard of conjured demons to catch the sky-full of nuclear doom missiles being launched from the engineer's army of giant steam doommecha of doom. The battle that was waged this day will be spoken of in hushed whispers for ages to come.

Or at least it would have been if anyone in the city had lived to tell about it. Most people think the city just vanished because of an angry god or something.

But you know better. For each of you are the surviving apprentices of that great wizard and engineer. The highly competent ones who had been sent away from from the crater that used to be the town of Blarph on pointless super important errands so that you wouldn't muck up yet another project that were really important. Because you were a really good apprentice! Really. Wizarding apprentices who always remembered to sweep your master's conjuring room clean of that dust that always seemed to collect in pentagram-shaped piles. The demons were always highly appreciative that you kept letting them out. Engineeringry apprentices who were so fastidious as to always clean the engineering whiteboard not only after latenight engineering sessions the night before project proposals were due for esteemed high-paying clients, but even during the coffee breaks too!

You were that good.

And now, with your master having fallen to that treacherous other wizard/engineer (he obviously must have been treacherous, because your master was awesome sauce and no way he'd have lost a fair fight to a simpering engineer/wizard) you must avenge him!

To participate:
1) Choose a faction: Wizards or Engineers.
2) Choose the extra stuff according to the explanations listed below for your chosen faction.
3) Write up a fluffy, entertaining paragraph or so detailing your character background.
4) State your character name. Any name will be accepted provided it's the same as your bay12 user name.
5) State honestly whether you're a flake who'll submit a character, play for one turn then disappear off the face of the earth.

Wizards:
Wizards choose two out of four spell disciplines. First, a discipline that they're really good at! Then, a discipline that they're really bad at. And then the other two don't need to be mentioned. They're kind of just mostly ok at those other two.

 * Burninating (Causing fire, explosions, fire, destruction and fire. Also, fire.)
 * Summoning (Asking very nicely for demons to show up and having them eagerly and enthusiastically appear because you're so charming and fun to talk to.)
 * Illusion (Making things look and sound different than how they really do. Make a cupcake look like a muffin with frosting! Is that sneaky or what?)
 * White Knighting (Protecting yourself and others from harm. Imagined or real.)

Engineers:
Engineers are totally different from wizards! Engineers have one discipline that they're really good at, and one that they're really bad at. Completely different. And the other two disciplines don't need to be mentioned during character creation, because unlike wiztards, you're mostly just ok at the other two. Ha! Take that, wizards!

 * Chemistry (Mix things and have the result be very different from any of the things you started with!)
 * Steam (Power your contraptions with really hot water!)
 * Electricality (Manipulating lightning to do things too small to do with your hands that you could totally do with your hands because you're awesome like that, but choose not to because it's cooler to use electricality to do it)
 * Metallica (Hitting metal a whole lot until it takes on really cool shapes!)

This game will be entirely freefrom, largely tongue-in-cheek, and not fair at all. Like, totally not fair. As an example of the unfairness, wizards and engineers will have a fairly significant difference in their gameplay mechanic for their wizarding and engineeringry actions. And I'm not going to tell you the difference until you've already committed to a choice. Because that's the kind of game this is.

I'm interested, but it seems like you're forcing us to play idiots who can't do anything right in their field.

To participate:
1) Choose a faction: Engineers
2) Good at steam, bad at metallica.
3) The steam king was never really an apprentice to the 'great' engineer. He was a small engineer who went to purposely cause failure. He knew a war was brewing, and he was preparing. He presented himself as an idiot so he'd be forced away from others and given the grunt work. There, he stole materials, and began building. He had created an unstable aircraft, which would be a good escape plan. The downside was it was only created to work once. He took the aircraft before the wizard-engineer negotiations went down. He watched the destruction safely in the sky. He survived, and with the great engineer gone, he would be able to become a great engineer.
4) The steam king
5) No.
