Fiddling with the Artifact, Tal figures that the thing he's been holding may, in fact, be the container for the actual artifact. It certainly looks old, whatever inscription it may have had on it were washed away long ago by time and encrusted with dust and decay.

Hopefully whatever's inside will still be intact.. it would be such a shame if you've went through all that only to get a broken artifact.

"How about we just don't open it. If it is indeed rigged to explode, then we can get our credits for retrieving the artifacts and laugh as it blows up in the research team's faces, rather than ours. I don't feel like we should risk our credits just for some tiny knowledge. What if we accidentally dropped it, or maybe it corrodes upon exposure to air. Haven't you read about the precautions people took in Ancient Egyptian tombs."

The scanners doesn't think that the Artifact's got anything explosive. And Tal does find where he thinks is supposed to be the gap that keeps it closed, some force should open this easily enough.
