"Or perhaps we could. Ya know. Observe. We don't Need to disguise ourselves. There's no reason to. We have total technological superiority. How about we gather data first. We aren't here to preserve the local populations. We're here to make a profit. Dilly dallying and fucking around pretending to be a caravan when we could be taking core samples and searching for high value mineral sites for future mines is silly and quite pointless. The local population would make for good labor but not much else."

"So do we send geological probes now or do we conquer the place first, then?" The Carmines brothers asked, confused.

"Probes first. No point in conquering if there isn't anything valuable nearby."

"Got it, launching probes." A. Carmine replied. There's a few muffled 'Thumps!' as several types of survey drones are launched and sent towards the village.

"Also have one take samples of that lake. Lakes tend to have trace amounts of minerals from surrounding deposits."

"We going to do that Covertly or Overtly?" A. Carmine asked. "We either fly in and scoop up some water with a drone or wait until it's dark and nobody's watching before doing that."

"All I'm saying is that they are going to notice eventually, and it would be a hell of a lot easier if we talked with them instead of invading their land. They look, act, and communicate like us. Chances are we should probably treat them as civilians."

"They're only Civilian if they can provide us with positive Identity Cards. Otherwise they're quite literally less than murder hobos you find outside of the Company, if one happens to have an ID, that is." B. Carmine points out. "Not to pop your balloon or anything, of course. But on a technical and legal point, they're no different than the monkeys we have locked up in the Cargohold waiting to be sacrificed for magic rituals. Hell, they're not even Natives to Earth so I don't think we're required to be 'humane' with them either."

"Yeah, I mean, at least the Monkeys are considered Company's properties." A. Carmine agreed.

Zach looks sick, "We can't just kill them - not until they've shown open hostility. This all appears too much out of one of those movies for my sake; Technologically superior aliens invade, patriotic 'Muricans fight to the last centimeter of land, desperate last ditch effort pushes aliens away. Bonus points if the aliens don't even try to communicate with the 'Muricans."

"Nonetheless, the idea of slavery is quite appealing, and we're gunna need labourers to make our supervillain lair for us, eh, Frazz?"

"Frazz Frazz. Where do you think we're gonna get the bodies for the zombies? Bodies don't just apperate from nowhere."

"As for the sample? Covert. No defense is better then wary potential defense."

"Alright, we'll wait for dark then.. If it ever gets dark around here?" A. Carmine said uncertainly.

Apparent that there's going to be some bit of waiting, Jenny and Maximus retires to the bunk.

Time passed, but your Recon drones never had to make a return to the vehicle for any refueling as they have on-board generators.

With careful tracking of time, the sun sets, metaphorically. As there are no visible sun or source of light except that there was light and then no more lights after several hours. It got dark, seriously dark that even your moving building of a vehicle would be difficult to spot with the lights off.

Do you want to turn on the spotlights or any special cameras directing outside?

Under the cover of darkness, your spying drone could see that the village that've taken your interest lit up many, many torches and lanterns to fend off the night. There weren't many lamp posts at the lake, fortunately, and your survey drone easily slip in for a quick dip for it's samples. Anyone nearby would've simply heard a strange hum of sort and a splash of water. The superstitious probably thinks it's some kind of a lake monster of sort, but you all knew better.

After the sample returns, it'll take a bit of time to analyze it all. But so far there's already obvious traces of Magnetite. That alone will be quite valuable, as mining from here will be far cheaper than mining from asteroids and shipping them to earth. Not to mention that it will be, ironically, safer.

"Magnetite," Zach says as he looks at the readout, "That's iron, isn't it? Given that we haven't extensively analysed it yet and we can already detect it, I'd say that there's a metric fuckload of the stuff, possibly solid ore extending below the village itself and pervading the lake. It'd be interesting to test to see if my mind control works on the locals..."
((Thank you Dwarf Fortress for teaching me my minerals! Also inb4 Frazz and Zach turn to supervillains))

"That's iron as well as a few other trace ferrous metals. And the fact that it's in the lake means there's a fuckton. Now's a good time for some completely unethical experiments relating to mental enthrallment. Notably without corporate overwatch. Lets wait till dawn before initiating anything. It's too dark."
