"Vigil should probably check the hatch due to his skillset. Everyone else, be prepared for hostiles. "

Presumably, people gets readied up at the side of the stairs, with Aria's LMR down the middle in case something horrible decide to come down.

Now, we just hope that Vigil knows what he's doing and whatever is or isn't behind that door isn't too bad.

Vigil will work his magic on the door, slowly, and then, once he gets it open, double check to make sure his gun is loaded, before cracking open the entry just enough to peep behind it, and see what's there.

Tal will have the scanner angled up the stairs to ensure Vigil can see anything up there.

((We're basically navigating on night vision via the HUDs I just realized. Cause the castle is completely dark.))

[Yes, you are navigating on night vision. :D]

The hatch creaked up for a moment, enough for Vigil to see a pair of metal boots.
Before he can react, a large spear pierced through the wooden hatch, inches away from Vigils head and nearly scraping the helmet!

"Contact!" Maximus shouted and opened up with his shotgun slug, showering whatever's on the other side with wood splinters as his thick slug smashes into the hatch and blast a small chunk of it out, revealing a hole large enough for most of you to get a glimpse of something metallic on the other side.

The spear is still there, maybe it'll pull the thing back, maybe it'll just stomp the hatch down and surf on the thing down the stairs, whatever it chooses, it's definitely coming for your booties.

Full spectrum scan. Gotta locate so it can be shot.

"Vigil, move back so you don't get speared."

The target lit up brightly on X-ray, having no difficulty in picking up metal. And it's just standing at the side of the hatch, apparently having stabbed it's large spear through the hatch when Vigil lifted it up a little. You can catch glimpses of it, but not enough to determine what it is exactly.

Vigil jumps back a few steps, and then a few more, gun aimed and ready.
"I am sure this one is heavily armored. That was nearly my head."

"Not if I get to him first!"

Switch my ammo to the armour piercing type and shoot the metal thing.

"This isn't a competition. What is it with you and impulsivity? Don't waste ammo."

"On a different note, we're going to have a nice sample to bring back after this."

"What sample will remain if the gauss round obliterates it? You saw what it did to the door! Also I myself am conducting some tests, it's called the 'what is the weakest force required to break this motherf**ker' test! We need to be aware of all the possible options of dealing with them. What if we're trapped in a room with 10 of these for example. Killing this guy with guass gets us practically no data. And who cares about wasting my ammo, if it doesn't work, then we can use the gauss. The money we'll get from the data will pay for the ammo we spent.

"By the way, how many gauss rounds do we have left?"

"Due to the point blank range. The gauss round will likely go directly tthrough through the target and keep going, unlikely to obliterate it. Likely to leave a shell sized hole in it and the ceiling behind it. Just like what it did to the door. Punched a hole and kept going. Same with how a missile would go directly through and not detonate at this range. Bringing back a body with one smallish hole in it is better then bringing back a body shredded by bullets. As for ammo, We have five gauss rounds left including this one."
