As Zach made his way down to the garage where the armored car is at, half way towards the car, several Akras security member in armor armed with both lethal and non-lethal weaponry jumped out from corners, pillars, the van itself and from the side of the doors behind him. “GET ON THE FUCKING GROUND NOW! HANDS ON YOUR HEAD!” They demanded, weapons raised and aimed at the growing sith.
Zach slowly raises his hands while whispering to his AI, “Roger, I need you to activate my SOS beacon and message Tal that I need help right now.” He then gets down on his knees before slowly lowering himself onto his knees and placing his hands back on his head. “Then video call Foxhound”
“May I ask what this is about, gentlemen?” Zach calls, “What did I do this time?”
“It is done.” Roger said simply as the surrounding men continues to hold Zach at gunpoint, several of them stowing their guns to take out cuffs.
“Attempting to hand Company’s assets to outsiders, revealing Company secrets as well as arming people who are not under Akras Employment. You can ask Doctor Nalvi for the whole list of your arrest.”
“Allow me to explain myself before you cuff me, please. Dr Nalvi said that the finding of a particular asset was a top priority. I intended to manipulate lowlifes to attain the location of the objective before notifying Foxhound of the location. There was also a more personal side to it, the people who are known to be in possession of the asset sent someone to try and kill me earlier, an assassin.”
“If you have any problems, complaints or explanations, save it for Doctor Nalvi. We’re just doing what he told us to.” One of them said as they let Zach rings Tal.
“Well, stow the cuffs, I’ll come quietly.” Zach says, “I thought that the policy for corporate arrests was cuffs are only for noncomplying perpetrators?”
“It’s for everyone’s safety, sir. And those noncomplying perpetrators can’t shoot lightnings out of their hands like you can.” The cuffsmen still approaches.
“Fair enough,” Zach chuckles, “one thing though.” he slowly reaches into his jacket and undoes his knife rig, both pistol holsters and the carried ammunition.
With his weapons disarmed, the cuffsmen nudged them away with their feet and cuffed Zach’s wrists and ankles.
When they were done, one of the securities held Zach’s PDA for him so he can facetime with Tal.
“I believe I need some answers, Tal?” Zach says, “I was so close to finding the Ringmaster, you know what he did to me! You know it was because of him that my brother is six feet under. You know he sent Jane to kill me, forgive me being mortal, but why can’t you just let me have my revenge? My brother, my last family member, is dead because of the Ringmaster. Do you know how that feels, Tal? Imagine your whole world shattering while you look on helpless.” Zach is crying freely now, “Tal, I don’t think you truly understand what his lot did to me.” He pauses, “Maybe this will pique your interest then. I know how to get the gypsey and the book.”
“Firstly. The arcane and occult have been stated to be STRICTLY INTERNAL on MULTIPLE occasions. You were nowhere NEAR close to identifying or locating them. A small swarm of teenagers is NOT an effective spy network. NOR will it ever be. It is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE to display the occult and use the arcane outside of COMPANY MANDATED MISSIONS. The only reason the Bloodrot Daggers are permissible is because they can be passed off as Poison. Fifteen teenagers are Dead because of Your choice. You didn’t seriously think they would be allowed to live after you Blatantly displayed arcane abilities correct? You are privy to literally Thee heaviest guarded secret in Akras and you decided it was a good idea to Flaunt it to a group of Loose Lipped Teenagers?!WHAT IN THE HELLS IS WRONG WITH YOU?! You were instructed EXPLICITLY that Akras is handling it. Yet you went and not only attempted to STEAL from Akras but you FLAUNTED HEAVILY RESTRICTED DATA. To be blunt. Your brother can be brought back. Necromancy is Absolutely possible based on our research, and 003’s dwelling place is a Very valid local to acquire data on it. Akras is locating your ‘Circus’ primarily because a member of it potentially could have access to the arcane. The Ringmaster is totally irrelevant to this and will be terminated, along with each and every other member of the group simply because it’s more efficient to prevent any potential retaliation or information leak relating to the arcane. Keep in mind that with necromancy? We can snag the buggers soul for you to torment later. However LET TRAINED PROFESSIONALS HANDLE IT. You are NOT TRAINED IN THE SLIGHTEST for espionage. You are a Magi. Act like it. Practice your abilities. Get yourself into a skillset that actually lets you torment your ‘Ringmaster’s’ soul once ya have it. As for being mortal? I intend to fix that within the next several months. Assets that can die are not valuable.”
“Tal, I…” Zach begins, “I fucked up, yes, but it was not entirely without logic. It’s not exactly like you can tell me that you’ve never fucked up before. Who would believe a group of lowlife teenagers, Tal? Do a Google Search for ‘evil megacorporations’ and tell me how many conspiracy theorists there are? If the teenagers did talk, nobody would have believed them. As for Akras-trained spies locating the Circus? There are two things that my group of ‘loose-lipped teenagers’ has over company-trained assets. Kids blend into crowds at ‘fun’ events such as a circus. In addition, nobody suspects a kid to be a spy. I have first-hand knowledge of that.” Zach draws breath, “You don’t really think that the Circus would take a kid like me, running away from home, into their care with no prospective profit? Someone who can throw many knives accurately in the span of a few seconds is valuable asset protection for them. I never liked it, but every time I refused to help them, a family member would ‘disappear’. They had me doing all kinds of crazy stuff there.”
“A circus is more than it seems. It is not profitable and thus their income comes from much more than a good laugh. It comes primarily from the criminal underground. I went undercover for the circus stealing drugs from syndicates, cash, jewellery, rare birds on one occasion, anything, and nobody suspected it was me. I live today because I was a kid. And they thought kids could not be suspects.”
“Which was what I was hedging everything on. If the Circus see a group of fifteen kids they’re not going to bat an eyelid. A group of adults snooping around is much more suspicious than a kid sneaking around.”
“The thing about the majority of conspiracy theories is nearly all of them have a grain of truth to them. You should know this as a ranking member Of a megacorp. There is a Huge reason why we go out of our way to silence things. There will always be minor leaks from low ranking employees. It is totally Unacceptable for a ranking member to go and flaunt classified data. The majority of megacorps do indeed have supercomputers and VAI dedicated to analyzing data. If something gets enough hits to be more than ‘vague speculation?’ You end up with a human looking into it. And then when they see it actually has concrete details and listings of personnel? Or even video feeds? You get inquiries. Espionage agents with specific tasks. Media attention. The list goes on. If the data in question is especially valuable? You get outright corporate warfare. Tactical missiles targeted at facilities. Corporate killsquads. Bioweapons. Warcrimes behind the scenes.”
“Not to mention it’s bloody stupid to send random kids hired off the street to perform espionage when we have perfectly good child soldiers for it. We have clone soldiers. We have clone agents. Let professionals handle it.”
“Because Clone soldiers worked so well for Akras in the shopping center?”
“To be fair they weren’t armed with any decent weaponry and they weren’t expecting blood magic. We had a Gauss, as well as the tactical advantage. Hell. We got the drop on them and hit them first.”
“My point still stands that they were bio-engineered soldiers and the worst that anyone got was vomited on and I got shot.”
“They were bio-engineered disposable soldiers. They weren’t trained for blood magic. They weren’t trained to go up against real combatants. They weren’t trained to be able to ignore a scent that has to date, caused literally everyone in the room to vomit besides myself.”
“Now a bioengineered supersoldier? Intended to see actual combat? That would have been significantly harder to down. Akras specializes in biomods and robotics. Redundant organs. Mechanical augments. Subdermal armoring. Nasty shit. Even a couple of those could have caused serious casualties before my Gauss downed em.”
Zach falls silent, “What happens to me now, then?”
“Now? You’re grounded till the next mission. If you’re gonna act like a child you’ll be treated as such. You remain a valuable asset and as such will remain mission functional.“
“Please though, in the future let Akras handle it.The Circus is a high priority target due to the fact that it has potential arcane artifacts and data.”
“I just wanted revenge, Tal.” Zach says sadly
“And you’ll get it. The soul of the ‘Ringmaster’ is yours to play with as soon as he’s killed and bound.”
“And the others? I want to make sure that the others who were used like I was are given fair treatment.”
“Depends on if they display valuable traits or not. If they demonstrate they are valuable in some way, they will be kept alive and potentially employed.”
“Am I free to go? I dunno if you can see, but I’m kinda hogtied here, and not in the good way.”
“You’ll be unbound and taken to the penthouse. I was serious about you being grounded.”
“Lemme try something” Zach tries to disengage the ratchets in the handcuffs using his powers.
“Now that I think about it, it’s probably a good idea to use zipties for magi in the future. Specifically metal lined ones. Harder to pop open.
“Well at least I can escape if I get kidnapped.”
“Eyup. Unless they’re military grade zipties.”
As if on Cue, the Cuffsmen smiles and shows Zach said Military Grade Zipties with a shit-eating grin.. They proceed to Hogtie the fledgling Sith once again.
Zach is brought to the penthouse and dumped on his bed before his restraints are removed and he begins pouting.
