"Yes, I believe the term is 'by the neck, until dead.' Or, maybe the Laers will have too much fun asking me questions, and rob the good people of Sevenforks their chance to witness true justice. Are you taunting me, maybe? What with a man in chains. Lady with a gun (three guns, actually) standing over him. Not very sporting, sir. But it's a cruel world, isn't it? I'm the fish, this is the barrel, you have the gun. I suppose it's human nature."
"It is not all bad," says the Jade, eyes opening a little wider. "You are freed of uncertainty, no?"
He fully moves into the curtained entrance to Jun's room.
"Though not truly free of it. You must doubt that you will die somewhere inside you, yes? That you will be saved and that things will work out?"
He nods and smiles at the man.
"That is what I think will happen, yes. You will go free for now. Bullets will come whistling through the walls, the driver's throat will be slit by an unseen hand. The carriage will fly off the road, and then we shall tumble. You will be unable to free yourself of your chains for now, and will look for the key. Maybe ask someone for it amidst the wreckage. One of us - not your captor - will be able and willing to help in the new situation."
As he speaks, his outline has the vaguest hint of a shimmer that seems to exist only for an instant between two blinks of an eye, then no more.
"Or maybe your friend will enlist us to seek you out after you are found to be missing in the wreckage. It... seems unlikely, but I can picture it all too clearly. There is a measure of salvation you could obtain if everything aligns properly," Immanuel says, now properly grinning at the poor fellow, his face looking a little stretched by the effort. "I think you will be all right. Or we may need to ensure you are not."
He turns his head to look toward Victoria, his grin suddenly turned into a look of concern.
"Am I being too optimistic? Do you believe he will be freed by fate? I think he will. I almost know he will," he says to her, sounding nervous all of a sudden.
