Healing by desecration
« on: August 05, 2015, 01:16:11 pm »

In the next release it will be possible to become cursed by desecrating a temple. The curse can turn you into a vampire or werebeast. If you lose limbs/nerves you can become a werebeast (can you get cursed again if you became vamipre?) and regrow any lost anatomy during transformation.

Finally gods are useful for something.

I think that it will be still impossible to be vampire and werewolf at the same time.Still, gods are finally going to be useful.

How adventurers would desecrate a temple, anyway?

How adventurers would desecrate a temple, anyway?

- Killing priests
- Wrestling the clothes off of priests you haven't killed yet
- Beating priests with their own clothes, with such force that the clothes become embedded in the wound, effectively wrestling the clothes back onto them
- Spitting on everyone
- Spitting on everything
- Throwing corpses around to paint the place with blood
- Throwing forgotten beast corpses around to paint the place with toxic blood
- Sprinting until you become covered in sweat, going prone, and then ROLLING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND to paint the place in your sweat
- Lighting campfires that never go out
- Throwing the corpses of murdered priests into a campfire in any temple not dedicated to a fire god
- Rededicating a temple to a fire god by throwing the corpses of the priests of the previous god into a campfire
- Rededicating a temple to LORD KHORNE by crafting chairs from the skulls of butchered priests. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!
- Being an elf in a dwarf temple
- Being a goblin in a dwarf temple
- Being a player-controlled dwarf in an elf temple after a stint in fort mode brings about the usual sort of dwarf-elf interactions
- Simply being any type of intelligent subterranean cave creature
- Stealing the entire temple as a kobold. Yes, the entire thing.
- ZOMBIE DANCE TROUPE ALL UP IN HERE!!!
- Lighting a campfire in an elf temple
- Lighting the elf temple on fire
- Chopping down the elf temple
- Lighting the elf temple on fire and then chopping it down while it burns
- Lying in a temple of truth
- Telling the truth in a temple of lies
- Turning on the light in a temple of darkness
- Singing Justin Bieber songs in a temple of music
- Spilling pepper all over the floor of a temple of salt
- Being happy in a temple of misery
- Being miserable in a temple of happiness
- Shouting out to everyone in a temple of silence
- Being a killer
- Being unhinged
- Being a pleasure to speak with
- Saying "it was inevitable" at any point in your life
- Using hacks and a pickaxe to remodel the temple
- Using hacks to open a portal directly to the circus in the temple and inviting the clowns up to attend Mass
- Editing your post to add new ideas every five seconds. Stop it. No. YES.

Rather than asking "How can I desecrate this temple?", instead, ask "How can I desecrate this temple in such a way that the deity actually recognizes I am fucking with it and provoke its wrath?"

I hope Toady will give some serious tought on that temple cursing system, because if the curses are still "become a vampire" or "become a were beast", in the context of Adventure mode it's currently not a curse at all but a huge bonus to become such creatures as no NPC care (or will mostly just run away if you're beast transformed), you don't even have to keep your status hidden from anyone, and yet you gain huge advantages and bonus.

He could always include more curses with less desirable effects. I made a sterility curse awhile ago and it works just fine, it gets used often and it works as intended. I've made curses with other effects, such as permanent transformations into random creatures, but I have trouble tracking those and I can't vouch for their effectiveness. Could always make the existing curses less desirable themselves, such as by making vampires vulnerable to sunlight, or suffering a complete loss of control when transformed as a werebeast.
As long as its not an unavoidable stat debuff like mummies I'd be cool with it, because that's just gamey and there's so much more you could do with it.

Going back to that list, it would be cool if the act of desecrating a temple was more relevant to the deity than toppling a statue. That's not something most gods would take lightly, but if I'm going to blaspheme I want to go full monty and do something outright offensive. Between the jokes, I had a few legitimate suggestions up there, namely the ones about doing things related to the opposite sphere in a temple.

Taking over and rededicating temples is something I'd like to look into too, maybe have that as a way to get away with trashing the place and not getting cursed.

Some of these are gold. I especially like having Fun in a temple of victory. Though, wouldn't that mean the priests or whoever helped you have Fun get a victory?

Possibly. The whole desecration thing seems kind of a moot point for one who had Fun. Maybe their body gets thralled until they win a battle.

You shouldn't have done that.

The part about NPCs not caring? It's worser:my character gets frequently called by everyone as vampire necromancer (even if they shouldn't know that)
