Inodlimar, Autumn 126 - Winter is coming
The Dorf formerly know as Urvad, now known as Pyrotechno, has gotten a few levels in axe, but none in Shield or Armor user, since she fights alone. To remedy this, I send her to kill a Kakapo.
This goes about as easily as expected. Pyro is no longer Rusty in Armor User.
Upon much consideration, I order the pressure plate to be removed. I shall build a dump at the bottom of a chute, and totally prevent crushing.
I notice we have only 7 beds for 14 dwarves. I queue up 28 more, which should be enough for the next wave. Beyond that, not my problem.
Meet the new bedrooms, same as the old bedrooms.
I designate the beginnings of a grave level. The space at left is for the peasants, but the space at right is for my own personal tomb. I humbly request my coffin be made of platinum. The vein is in the Gem Stockpile.
The caravan arrives, but I get the message
No outpost liason? How Curious.... The government at Flashportal appears nonfunctional, but capitalism is still somehow puttering along.
All we have are gems, but we can trade them for some food.
I also mark some of the metric butt-ton of wood we have lying around for trading. We have no bins, so we're gonna be hauling for a while.
I build a Farmer's Workshop and Wood Furnace.
I trade away every gem in the fort for all their meat, fish, and garden vegetables.
A note to my successors: Pyrite and gray chalcedonies are worth crap. Jade is worth 100 apiece, and indigo tourmaline is worth 125.
The Fort's immediate food problems are solved.
"I" create a masterwork claystone coffin!
(I made Lord Brassroast a profession.)
I slap down some coffins in the graveyards. Someday this will have masterwork statues and will be all engraved, but not today.
Bedrooms are done, with more than enough space for everyone in the fort.
Work continues on the Palisade.
I order Th4DwArfY1 to perform all metalsmithing jobs. We need iron.
There is a Black Bear near the Palisade. Thankfully it runs in terror of our miner.
The leaves are a pretty red color.
I know, I'm a terrible dwarf for saying that.
I order 10 units of coke, and 10 units of iron.
We have no bins. I order 10 to be made.
The Fortification level of the palisade is done. I begin building a floor on top.
Migrants! The first one is a Shearer, but he also has Competent in Swordsdwarf and several non-weapon combat skills, so I will draft him.
Then a High Master Mason shows up!
Final Tally:
1 mason
1 Hunter
1 Trapper
1 Bone Carver
1 Shearer/Swordsman
1 Thresher
1 Wood Burner
1 Trader (who is now broker)
1 Reindeer Bull (butchered as soon as he entered the map)
Our numbers now stand at 22, and these idiots need beds. Most of them are going to be forging stuff.
I tell everyone except for the Shearer and the Bone Carver to get forging.
LoudWhispers enters a secretive mood!
He claims a Mason's Shop...
And begins to gather things.
He gets everything he needs and begins a Mysterious Construction! Whew! A live Whispers is much more useful than a dead one.
LoudWhispers creates Uzshar, a magnetite coffer! It is worth 50,400. I'm going to hold off on installing it, because that would basically triple the fort's value and we have no real military. He is now a Legendary Miner.
I assign Ezum the Shearer to our military under Pyro. His armor is still being produced, but he has a sword and that's the important bit.
Our 2 brave militiamen are now almost fully armed and armored in iron. We only need 1 helmet, which is currently being forged.
Winter is upon us, and so ends my reign.
The Stocks Screen:
Here are images of all the levels of the fort:
Z level 0-The Gate
The Palisade is 3 levels high. It has a roof and drawbridge, but no moat. The red is leaves, not blood.
Z Level -1
The Trade Depot. Fill this area with traps.
Z level -2
Put moar traps here.
Z level -3
Farms.
Z level -4
Workshops and stockpiles. The Northwest corner holds random crap, the Southwest stockpiles are raw materials for workshops. This also has kennels and the Barracks.
Z level -5
Kitchens, food storage, and dining hall. General food production. The lever in the dining hall links to the bridge in the Palisade.
Z level -6
Bedrooms.
Z level -7
The Forges. North stockpile is metal ore, south is bars, North cubicles are for forges, and south for smelters.
Z level -8
The Tombs. The big empty space is for my tomb. I again humbly request a Platinum Sarcophagus.
Priorites for future rulers
Short Term
-Beds for immigrants
-Moar food. We're doing pretty good, but overconfidence=starvation, especially when the population expands.
-Security. We are fully capable of turtling, but we should have more traps and a real army.
Long Term
-Once we have a good iron army, dig for the flux. It's under the forest, but not the Badlands. Even Elf and Goblin weapon lords cannot stand against steel.
-Live up to our name and build the best damn gate Kar Niral has ever seen.
Men, there is one thing I'd like you to remember. There is one thing the great games, Glazedcoast, Nist Akath, etc have in common: They're singleplayer. This is a succession fort. Boatmurdered was a succession fort. So was Battlefailed. So was Headshoots. This is the way of the Elephant Wars. This is the way of the Magma Floods. This is the way of the Holistic Detectives. This is, as they say, It. This fort is doomed to fail hilariously. And I just want to say in advance, it was a pleasure playing and being dorfed alongside you all. Goodbye, and best of luck.
