So I am on a network and currently I've been getting a LOT of internet slow down. Lots of lag spikes, lots of slow periods, and it goes insane whenever my computer is taxed or when my brother is playing DayZ (and it never was that bad before).

What can I do to find out the problem or issue?

The houses internet is fine. It is completely isolated to my computer.

If you use wifi, check what frequency it's broadcasting on.  If there's more people nearby with wifi on the same frequency it will cause a lot of interrupts and slowdown, change the frequency/channel to something else and it might solve your problem.

Or even better, stop using wifi and get an old fashioned, but fast cable.

It's certainly worth testing with the ethernet cable, it's easy to do and if it makes a major difference you have isolated the problem to the wifi.  Then if you MUST use the wifi, you can at least start changing settings on there knowing it's the problem...

Yeah, as a troubleshooter my first suggestion would be to check ethernet v. wi-fi, since that eliminates a huge number of potential suspects if we know if that fixes the problem or not.
